I'm a USAF Vietnam Era veteran. Each Memorial Day I attend an observance of all the fallen comrades of all our conflicts. I ponder what their lives could have been. I ponder if I had received the same orders to a combat theater, would I have performed with the honor they did.

Although you may want to, remember that it is improper etiquette to thank veterans and current service men and women on Memorial day which is reserved strictly for the fallen

When you see our beautiful flag fluttering overhead hold this thought close to your heart: IT IS NOT THE WIND WHICH STIRS IT. IT IS MOVED BY THE DYING BREATH OF EVERY SOLDIER WHO LAID DOWN HIS LIFE TO DEFEND IT.

Everytime I see the POW-MIA flag, which is often, I can't help but wonder if we left anyone behind in North Vietnam, Cambodia... We have so many MIA of Korea and Vietnam who are not yet accounted for. And to me, a veteran, that is totally unacceptable. Only consolation is that if we did leave anyone behind, they're gone now...

It’s not a priest that gives us our freedom of religion
And it’s not a reporter that gives us our freedom of voice.
It’s not any judge, lawyer, politician, preacher or teacher
But the blood of a soldier that has sacrificed by choice.
