The International Child Committee was founded on May 31, 2007 in Pennsylvania, USA. It is run by a Secretariat and a Board of Directors. ICC addresses the needs of individuals and families victimized by the Liberian civil war. A country office established in Liberia implements programs such as education, skills training, health and sanitation, shelter and food security for its target population.
The ICC Resource Center's free internet and computer access to the Public has had tremendous impact on not only its users but the community as a whole. Many of its trainees and users are now capable of independently booting a computer, browsing the internet and sending emails to friends and relatives as well as chatting online through Yahoo Messengers and other chat engines. Moreover, some of the trainees have successfully been employed as temporary data entry clerks within the local United Nations and International non-governmental organizations' humanitarian relief delivery system in Liberia. Besides, students who constitute a bulk of our users have and continue to have resounding success in meeting the demands of their academic challenges such as assignments, group projects and research work through the use of our free computer and internet services.
This program currently serves about 150 users per day. Hence, with this number of users, the ICC projects to serve about 54,000 users on an annual basis. Eight desktops for users and two desk tops for our staff use. Current staffing for this project in Liberia includes four full time, three part timers and one volunteer. In addition to this specific computer and Internet project, the ICC currently provides 20 scholarships to needy and deserving students at four Elementary and Junior High schools. This scholarship program which runs for the 2009-2010 academic calendars provides tuitions, fees and note books.
