Martin HD-35 vs D-45 Comparison

Keep in mind a D-45 costs about 3x's as much as a HD-35.

Why aren’t they tuned on the same E frequency? The second is tuned lower

Looks like the position is a bit different. Mics direct into sound hole for the D35 and mics were more toward where the neck meets the body on the D45. I could be wrong, but a small move can sound different.

The D-45 sounded much darker right away but fuller. The HD-35 sounded brighter and more airy.

The 45th looks too gypsy and even sounds simpler. HD-35 sounds much richer, although much cheaper. Paradox? No, scalloped springs.
