Nice work here! Good comparison
And remember: Good Ol’ Boys play Martins. Bad Boys play Gibsons. Choir Boys play Taylors

I have a Martin HD-35 and currently window shopping for a Gibson J-45 so this video seems more than appropriate to watch!

Nice Duo!!! Both sounded great and different enough to own both. Congrats on two spectacular guitars. Must be a hard choice which one to pick each time.

I’m jealous. Wish I had either, let alone both!

Great review👍 I currently own a 2010 Hd-28 it’s a great sounding guitar, but I’ve been craving a j-45 mahogany b&s. Problem is there’s too many models to choose from.

Leaning towards the j45 just slightly. If I had it my way, I’d love both

Both sound great but you can’t beat the playability of equally priced Martin guitar. I have played Gibson, Taylor, Guild and Martin guitars at this price point and all Martins make me sound better than I am.

D35 sounded fuller and resonated longer…thanks for the comparison.

As others have commented both sound great, but as I own and bought new in 1986 a D35 I have to go with it. The biggest tonal difference is caused by the Martin having rosewood back and sides, whereas the J35 has mahogany. Rosewood is brighter sounding, whereas mahogany is warmer sounding.

My J45 will arrive today. Maybe someday I’ll own a D35 too!

Boy I'm glad I finally got a J-45

It's subjective, I like the strumming on the Martin and the picking on the J-45.

Both sound pretty outstanding here. But I sold my D35 last year and recently picked up a J45. I was amazed at the build quality and sound of a new guitar and it has a more responsive piano like quality than I remember with the D35. I seemed to have to push the Martin with the style I play, which is not very aggressive. I like the form factor of the slope shoulder and don’t feel like I’m struggling to get around a large instrument. Both are great choices though. Thanks.

I was going to buy a J45 but I bought a Gibson Songwriter instead because I liked the sound better.I still want a J45 though!

Nice comparison. I like the Martin . Alive sounding to my ear. Then again, I have three D-35s, and one is reimagined. One vintage and the other 2010. The 2010, however, blows the others out.

The J4-5 is nice, and I almost bought one. Then I played an Martin SPD-16 KOA, and that ended that purchase.

If only given one chose and only one, it’s the D-35. Both are superb though.

Both beautiful, not able to compare as they have their own distinct sound.
