My (almost) Perfect Storage Workflow

Storage is crucial in the creative field, whether it’s SD cards, internal drives, SSDs, cloud storage, or backups. After losing a lot of past work and memories, I knew I needed a better solution. My journey led me to the TerraMaster D5 Hybrid DAS (Direct Attached Storage), and it’s been a game-changer.

The D5 Hybrid offers up to 68TB of storage, hardware RAID support, easy drive placement, active cooling, and fast speeds. It features a 10Gbps USB 3.2 port and three M.2 NVME SSD slots for even faster performance. I installed two 2TB Samsung 970 Evo drives and a 500GB Crucial P3 Plus drive, alongside 4TB Seagate IronWolf drives in RAID 1 for backups.

For portable storage, I use UGREEN Thunderbolt enclosures to convert the SSDs into external drives. This allows me to work seamlessly across devices without spending more on expensive internal storage.

What’s the point of having a DAS? I don’t get it bc you can also buy a NAS with NVMe SSDs.
