This is so encouraging! I've been so bummed not to get on my horse more than twice a week. So reassuring that he'll still make progress! Thanks!

This also debunks the norm that when a horse becomes scared of something and you are in control of the situation, that turning him away from the stimulus, you are encouraging him to be more scared. In fact it is quite the opposite. The more you take the horse away, the more likely he will become curious. The more you flood him after his reaction to the stimulus, the more scared he becomes.

I have noticed that most horses benefit from two days of work and one day off. If they are struggling with learning something, the day off will often “fix” that. I have for many years called with “delayed learning” and taught it to my University training students back in the 1980s.

Bonjour
Great explanation. It’s like learning a lesson before going to bed and sleep. You wake up in the morning and you know it for good. Humans and horses are different in many points but are mammals and work the same in some ways. I can remember situations where being stressed, not by the situation itself, but by not knowing what to do just like the horse with the grey flags. Thanks

The more horses are studied, the more we realize they are similar to us 🙂 thanks for this interesting review

I read somewhere (cant remember where), that training 3 days a week was better than every day, in that horses learned the same thing in less hours if training was 3 days a week. I do get annoyed when some very popular trainers (one of these is Clinton A) insist that if you only get on your horse once a week "you may as well not bother".

Apparently horses stress over confusion. People do also. Just my observation
