Dragon Ball FighterZ - Gohan's potential unleashed mechanic

A breakdown of what exactly Potential unleashed exactly changes. You probably know the new move and the changed combo structure, but there is more to it than that!

Kinda surprised you missed this, but Ultimate Back Attack (qcb L/M/H) does have a property change at Level 1. It goes from a dash move of varying distance depending on the button to a teleport, with the buttons changing where Gohan's position is. Light is slightly in front of, Medium is a bit behind, and Heavy is way behind. Gohan can use this as a combo under in his aerial chains after a j.2H that isn't jump canceable!

I'm not sure if you know this, but Gohan's "combo rule breaking" mechanic actually does have a name in the FGC. It's called Reverse Beat, which is a term that originated in French Bread's (The Under Night In-Birth devs) game Melty Blood, which had it as a universal mechanic for all characters (as did Under Night In-Birth). And from what I understand, Frieza also has it during his Golden Frieza install and Vegito has is by default.

I love how with max potential for his lvl 3 special he no longer summons Goten and he doesn't go super saiyan, he just goes full ham by himself for more damage

236S gains an additional 2 hits at level 1 which is what adds the awesome extra 40% damage. It also affects combos slightly due to the extra hit stun

Gohans back quarter circle changes with level one in base he flys up to do an overhead but when he's level 1 he can now teleport there and do it

There might be positive hitstun scaling or lowered cooldown on normals. I found a corner loop with normal ki-attack into masenko, into vegeta assist into normal ki blast, back into masenko, and it feels easier with more levels to connect the second ki blast into masenko. But that might just be a mix of my inconsistency plus natural human proclivity to find correlation where there is none.

Oh yea, his aerials. For additional wall combos after doing a heavy from lvl 1 and onwards you can definitely connect with a light and keep combo-ing. It’s in a lot of combo videos.

Gohan's DP also gets a massive range increase for the initial dash-in as his levels go up.
