A total of 261 Russian women served as pilots during the lifetime of the 588th Night Bomber Regiment in WWII. They were nicknamed ‘Night Witches’ for their stealthy attacks. 32 of them died in service.

Факт: 588 женский гвардейский полк использовал самолёты с ДЕРЕВЯННЫМИ корпусами, чтобы их не было видно на радаре, а на подлете к цели двигатели выключались, чтобы не создавать лишнего шума, а после сброса бомб двигатели снова включались
В СССР их прозвали Небесными ласточками, а вот именно от Германии пошло прозвище Ночные ведьмы
