Noticed that the non-live version of this song wasn't on youtube..

Lyrics:
I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead
I just need some place where I can lay my head
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, "no" was all he said

Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide
When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side
I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on let's go downtown"
She said, "I gotta go but my friend can stick around"

Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke and Luke's waitin' on the Judgment Day
"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son, won't you stay and keep Anna Lee company?"

Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

Crazy Chester followed me and he caught me in the fog
He said, "I will fix your rack if you'll take Jack, my dog"
I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man"
He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can"

Yeah, take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

Catch a cannon ball now to take me down the line
My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time
To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she's the only one
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone

Take a load off, Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off, Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

My father's last night on earth was Dec 18 1997. I got the call he was being made to be comfortable. I walked in an knew it was going to the last night. This was one of his favorite songs. So I loaded my portable CD player and played this song using my headphones. I set the headphones are N top of his head. My father absolutely relished this song into his soul. This was a comfort that I could offer as it was my way of saying goodbye pops...he laid there smiling. It was an unexpecting surprise because very few people knew it was his favorite song. He passed away 4 hours. I hope that this song resonated through eternity though the outer limits of time. Miss you always Dad. See you on the flip side.

I'm 66 years old and wow, what a journey this has been. This song stays with me through it all. Loved reading all the comments. Incredible to read this many comments about a single song with NO negatives. May peace be with you all.

You know after 33 yrs in the Army I finally retired 6 months ago. I was so worn out and beat up I was done. I was hoping life would be better and happier but I’m still worn out. I am listening to the song because I grew up with it. Love this song. This song has been played in many of a battle I’ve been in. Well hope life gets better. I love everyone’s comments here. My father would listen to The Band relentlessly, this being his favorite song. As I sit here in hospice with him laying next to me heavily sedated...and drifting farther away.. the only thing i can do is play him music, I just want to see him smile again. Anything.

My brother, no my Hero died today.
This was his favorite song, I cant stop playing it, I love you Bro. You will live on, and never be forgotten. Jesus has you now, and this World never meant anything, its all in Heaven. I will be there someday, until then praise the King of Glory, and tell him Im ready.

My dad had "The last Waltz" on tape. I remember when I was like 12/13 we used to watch it, it was so awesome.
I'm 31 now(born in '91). It's a shame most people my age have no idea who The Band is.
I'm glad my dad always listened to Dylan, the band, rolling stones, zeppelin, ccr and introduced me to them all. What a time that must've been to be alive 🙌

I got a beautiful Labrador puppy when I was 6 and she was my best friend for 16 years. On her last day before the big sleep, I cracked open a beer and sat with her in my garden listening to music. This song came on and I burst into tears. She nuzzled her head into my hand as if to tell me not to worry- she was just taking a load off.
