Why is Security Light Flashing on my Subaru?

After eleven years I needed to replace our battery last week on our 2010 forester and noticed the light tonight. Did a door check and sure enough that light continued to blink. Did a Subaru security light flashing YouTube search and now I know all is ok. Thanks Patriot

Thank you for your brief but direct-to-the-point explanation! I've owned my Subaru Forester for 9 yrs and just yesterday did this flashing begin, right after getting battery replaced (had literally died). We were concerned that the constant flashing would drain the new battery, since I drive the car infrequently (retired, use car for doctor visits/shopping). I agree with other people who commented that this light should have been more clearly explained in the manual. Go figure, 9 years and the security light JUST "kicked in" to action....sheeeesh!
From reading other comments, I'm not the only one this has happened to!

Have had my Outback since 2015 and literally just noticed this when looking down on my car from an upstairs window at night. I thought something was wrong, but I'm happy this video confirmed it's normal!

Someone just tried to break into my new car at 4 am. Thank God for this feature. There was quiet a commotion; horn beeping and emergency light went off. The bad guy ran a way. Thank you Subaru!

The Getting Started Guide states that any instrument panel display with a *red* color means Attention Required; blue means Informational. Some sort of qualifier would help, such as "except Security Indicator light flashes red but is only Informational."

Many thanks for demystifying that blinking light for me. I am pretty sure it was not there before, but I noticed it yesterday, a few days before a long drive ahead, and it made me nervous. Now I can go with easy. Thank you again.

Just noticed this flashing light. Nothing in the owner's manual that explains what it means. Usually flashing red lights mean problem. After a period of anxiety whether to call Subaru Service I had to go online to find the answer. I hope newer manuals include this in the warning light section.

Thk you so much. Hv new 2022 Forester. Noticed the flashing light for the first time at 11 pm last night when I walked by my window. Freaked me out. Had to go out and investigate. Benn real cold so I thought I had battery problems. Thk for easing my worry.

To disable, lock the car fully when you are outside of it. Then unlock all doors, open ONLY the driver door, and hold the unlock button for 3 to 5 seconds. This will disable the light. Hope this helps to all of you worrying about running the battery down!

After a year of owning ours. It just started blinking for the 1st time, tis never blinked before and would have definitely noticed it.

Have had my ‘24 OB almost 10 months and just noticed blinking. Couldn’t find the answer in the OM-thanks for the answer!

Had my 2018 Outback for a few months and never noticed this until a few days ago. Odd thing is that it NEVER blinked until that time, it's very obvious on turning off the engine and removing the key and I definitely would have noticed it as I tend to sit in my car with the key out of the ignition and finish my coffee in the parking lot at work each morning. Thinking something bad was happening with my new car, I frantically searched online at my work desk and discovered this is a normal function of the alarm system. Still...why did it only just now start to flash three months into ownership? I didn't set/unset any alarm function to cause anything to happen. Guess I'll bring it up to the dealer when I take it in for my first 6000 mile oil change.
