Home Assistant Tuya HassIO Tutorial -
This is a simple description of what Tuya is, and how to get it into HassIO. I also briefly explain why you may not want it, as you may not want your info sent to a cloud service located in a different country. There have been reported security issues with Tuya earlier this year, though it appears that many of the ones found have been patched. This article contains more details:
For those that want to go a different route, the following video is excellent:

That info out of the way, I want to explain how I use it and my setup.
My setup involves using a separate wifi network for my TUYA based devices. The devices only need internet access if you're using the cloud, so there is no need for them to access your local network. Also, in the Tuya App you can choose your location to be other than it's actual (and I recommend that...there's no need for the app to know where you live!). That all aside, I do find the Tuya app to be very useful for what I need (my outdoor lights and christmas lights to turn on and off during the day/night). I leave the rest of my automation work to Zwave/Zigbee based devices that connect directly to my HA raspberry pi (Please see the Zwave \Zigbee tutorial if you want to know more there).
I also want to mention "The Hook up" which has an excellent channel and video here:
I learned much of the beginner stuff for Home Assistant from Dr. Zzzs who has some amazing work going up right now around christmas lights:
And finally Bruh Automation has some exellent work that I've learned from:
I plan on doing a node-red tutorial next, and tying this into the dynaframe project. as well as ecobee and the smartmirrors....
Then I will switch back over to other project style videos (and hopefully Dynaframe 2.0!) Thanks for watching, subscribing, liking, commenting, and making!
