Another 24 hours have flown by in te Vendeeglobe 2024 around the world sailing race, and what a fun time it was reading the many comments on Conrads 'controversial' comments yesterday. Meanwhile the two men in front of the fleet are perhaps entering one of the most important phases of the race. Today we will take a more in-depth look at what the differences are between the two leading designs.

thanks so much for the analysis on the "optimal" tuning differences of type 2 lead boats today...Question....what do they actually do (or have) to make these differences? I thought it was all about sail positions or shapes. or is it to do with the shapes of the boat hulls?

Pip’s video today mentioned anchors sealed in Medallia’s port tunnel. Are the anchors like the engine, having to be sealed during the race (and disqualification is unsealed)? If so, the engine makes sense to me, but why the anchors?

How are the boats measuring boat speed (not GPS speed) when they are foiling? Isn't boat speed through the water (vs GPS speed) a key input to TWA, AWD, TWS and AWS for the autopilot?

I was unable to comment yesterday but as a proud Tasmanian i agree with Conrad that Cape Leuwin is beautiful as it may be is not anything special as far as Capes go. I think Southwest Cape at the bottom of Tasmania is much more significant and the fleet actually goes much closer to it than Western Australia. I wouldn't want to suggest it to the New Zealanders but as they are even more south than Tasmania and also the halfway point in the race if they have a decent Cape that anyone has heard of at the bottom a New Zealand maybe theymshould talk about that. Alternatively they could say it is a 5 Cape race. Cheers Sea Wolves

I am in awe of how good their autopilots are watching MACIF belting along and seeing how quickly the pilot is reacting to the pounding that its getting is absolutely amazing.
