Wooden six wheeler! The incredible Hustler 6 In Wood - what's it like to drive?

This was something special - an Interstyl Hustler 6 made out of wood! Designed by William Towns, the Hustler was sold as a kit of parts - unless you opted for a wooden one when pretty much all you got was the plans. John Brazier, a teacher in Bristol, built this one in the 1980s - then used it as family transport! The Hustler uses Mini subframes. Three of them in this case.

Berlingo camper video soon!

I know a guy who built a completely wooden car . Wooden body, wooden wheels, even a wooden engine. Only one problem, wooden go.

Better than any supercar review, it's Ian driving a motorised sideboard 😁

Have you ever wanted to sit in your grannies glass cabinet and drive to the seaside? Or have you looked at your great aunts sideboard and thought, “what that needs is a seat and an A-Series”? Well boy do we have the car for you 😂

Built a Hustler 6 in the 80's.using a Mini 1275 twin carb engine. Instrumentation was from a Triumph. Brilliant vehicle and with the reversed Mini rear subframes, had a brilliant ride. My young kids at the time absolutely loved it. Took a bit of nerve at first driving it as everyone just stared at you as you went by!

I had forgotten about these. I remember seeing kit sets for sale when I was a kids. They offered 4 and 6 wheel and I always wanted the 6. Even at the age of about 12 I was a bit odd lol

You got the glass, along with the plans, from Interstyl, which was William Town's design company. This was partly so that one set of plans couldn't be used to build multiple vehicles, but mostly because the windscreen had to be approved laminated glass and the other windows had to be tempered. I was a one stage talking to William about buying a set of plans and indeed one of the Tracer mid engine sports cars, but sadly the chemotherapy he was undergoing proved ineffective and he died before a deal could be done.
