@Judge Napolitano, there were referendums held in which Donbass and Donetsk voted to leave Ukraine to form their own countries as a result of the coup in 2014 and the Ukrainian army attacking civilians. Crimea voted to rejoin the Russian Federation. See the independent film, "Ukraine On Fire".

Scott is not very correct by judging events on 22-24 February. He said Putin "we are taking Donbass" on 22 of Feb. In fact he recognized them as independent States and signed up an agreement of cooperation (including military). That was the answer on severely increased bombing of Donbass by Ukrainian Army. It was clear by that time that Ukraine decided to solve Donbass problem military what was completely against Minsk agreements to say the least. After Russia recognition of Donbass Republics as independent states Ukraine did not stop shelling. You can check these facts on OSCE reports. And so, to protect Donbass Republics and to stop this bloody aggression that Ukraine was doing since 2014 Putin announced special military operation. I believe Scott should be aware about these facts.

Good interview..but Scott is wrong about this important fact..Russia did not and has not declared war....If they declares war...Ukraine would be destoyed..The stated action is "a special military operation"
