Alice Oseman knows exactly how Heartstopper will end and teases future TV seasons

Without a doubt, Alice Oseman is deserving of the title Person of the Year in this year's Attitude 101 list of LGBTQ trailblazers. The Heartstopper creator has gifted the world with a remarkable and uplifting series about the LGBTQ community.

In an exclusive interview, Oseman shares with Attitude what it's like to be behind one of the biggest LGBTQ sensations of 2022, that they knows exactly how it will end, and what fans can look forward to seeing of the character of Isaac.

As a middle aged queer person who had a difficult journey growing up, this series has done so much for me from a healing perspective. Ive watched the Netflix season 1 episodes about a dozen times so far, and they still fill my heart with joy. Thank you Alice. You are truly a healer.

recently, i went to my local book store and bought all 4 volumes for $60 (my wallet is bleeding, but you got to do what you got to do for gayness) and my mom asked to borrow one for her students. next thing i know is she is buying the books for her classroom. i’ve already come out to her as being a lesbian, and it’s very nice to not hide it. we went to a thrift store and she almost got a lgbtq+ ally flag, but remembered her principal doesn’t allow “political” statements or whatever. she is trying her best to be inclusive and supportive and i think it’s so sweet of her!

I was still a teenager when I firstly read Heartstopper on Tumblr. When I saw the comic book at the bookshop, translated in my mother tongue, my inner teen screamed with excitement and I bought it immediately. The series do the justice, I'm really happy that nowadays teens have the opportunity and access to queer literature, movies and series.

I don’t know about the books, but the best way for the show to end, at least in my mind, is this: in the last scene, we see Nick and Charlie sitting side by side, and holding hands, fingers interlaced. The camera slowly closes in on the hands, and then they gradually fade to the hands of 2 old men, signifying that they did, indeed, spend their life together. This still leaves open all of the potential stories in between, but fulfills Alice’s vision of Nick and Charlie being soul mates and ‘end game’.

Alice did what many have failed to do, put heart and soul into something not just a box tick, and what a beautiful writer and illustrator, to give the community something so beautiful so unique for us filled with joy, friendship, struggle, acceptance, coming of age, family, equality, emotion, so many feelings and realness, unlike most Queer stories we get are dark and sad that's not whom we are our flag is a rainbow for a reason. We needed it and Alice did it in Heartstopper, I hope we get at least 6/8 seasons of this amazing series, never seen anything like it and would never want it to end. The cast are amazingly talented. I hope we get to see Nick & Charlies story for a really long time! and the rest of the crew also. Thank you Alice, The cast, Netflix and everyone that brought her beautiful books and gift to life!
