Who Made Mega Man?

Who Made Mega Man?

Given the widespread misconception that Keiji Inafune created Mega Man, or Rock Man, I wanted to take a look into it myself and see if I could find the true creator of Mega Man. And... I believe I have! I know it's filled with quotes from the creators of Mega Man, but I find it all fascinating, and I hope you do as well!

Dr. Thomas Light made Mega Man. Duh. Next question.

I find it amazing how passionate Akira Kitamura was during the productions of Mega Man 1 and 2. To him, Mega Man was more than just a character and a game, and I love it when developers treat their games as more than just games. Then again, the Classic Mega Man series is my favorite video game franchise, so it's great to see the beginnings of the franchise being filled with such passion from Akira Kitamura. :)

Akira's manga representation makes this video (and the admirable research and insight)

As a fellow developer, I salute that programmer for insisting on safety checks!

Great video, very Informative. It's always frustrating seeing people praise Inafune so highly for stuff he didn't do and giving no credit to the man that actually created the series.
I also like the music list In the description, wish more people did that.

Thanks for making this video, Akira Kitamura deserves a lot more credit for his work. It's just too bad that we don't know where he is today.

After digging through the internet myself, I believe I have found an actual picture of A.K. Some Mega Man fan found it in book about forgotten Japanese developers. It isn't a very good quality photo, but it's better than nothing.

I've been a mega man fan for years and have seen a lot of videos partially about the history of how the series was made but this is, by a mile, the most informative.

GDC should honor Kitamura for Mega Man, Takashi Nishiyama for Street Fighter and Akira Nishitani & Akira Yatsuda for Street Fighter II.

It's really weird still learning new stuff about the design philosophy behind Mega Man, great video!

Okay, first things first, you don't know how much I appreciate you putting your sources in the description.

Secondly, it feels so great to finally uncover A K's involvment in the series. For a long time I knew he had been the actual father of Mega Man, but everything else was a complete mysery.
It's sad to see him leave the industry so quickly, though...

Soon 33 year old franchise and still going strong with it's 8-bit graphics! One of my favorite videogame series of all time along with Castlevania and Resident Evil

Very interesting. Thanks for putting this together. It's ironic that Inafune gets so much credit as "the father of Mega Man" given that Kitamura quote about the importance of it being a team effort.

Another great video, Dave! Would love to see anything on the Final Fantasy series, mainly all the confusion with the numbers being changed for the west. Eg. FF6 = FF3 etc
