Attila the Rottweiler purring and grumbling!

My 9 month old Rottweiler Attila loving his attention he's getting from his mama. Rotties are very vocal dogs!

For those who dont know, low growling is a sign of affection. It’s like a cat purring.

There is no sign of distress or aggression in that dog so that is just a rumble of a happy doggo

Reminds me of the first time I cuddled my sister's rottweiler who started growling at me and in my horrified confusion I stopped petting him and he looked at me with sad eyes and pushed his nose up under my hand to keep me going.
A total wtf moment until my sister explained how a rottweiler expresses itself

My rescued Rottweiler does the same purr, although it’s a bit quieter. I thought it was unique to her. At least I know she loves me.

I have a Rottweiler and she lays on my face and purrs XD She also comes up under my arms and tries to knock my phone out of my hand ;-;

My 83 yr old Aunt had to move to her daughter's home for health reasons. Her daughter wouldn't allow her newly adopted 8yr old rottie to come with her. I took her in because the poor dog had been neglected at her first home and my aunt was so afraid if she gave her to anyone but family she might be abused again. The poor dog is grieving not being with my aunt, but I'm doing everything I can to spoil and help her adjust. I've had a dobie and a chow mix, both sweet and never harmed anyone. I was shocked and confused by Sam's noises. I kept waiting for her to lift her lip to show me her teeth or some other sign of aggression, but it's been days. Nothing has happened. She only does this when I rub her head or belly when she's tired and wanting to nap. I'm googling for info and trying to find out more about the breed. Thanks for posting this! I was really scared Sam was not going to be able to stay because of what I perceived to be growling at me. Now I know she's just purring. This is the biggest dog I've ever owned, and I want her to live out her life with me. I could use any videos you can make to show us newbies more rottie behavior that can help us be responsible rottie owners.

I have aussie who makes this *exact* sound. It was driving me and husband crazy to find out who else makes these noises. Like shes making those rumbly low growling sounds while she's cuddling with me... It's so surreal but it's good to know it's entirely out of affection

My Rottie, Mingo, does that same thing as she's rolled over ON HER BACK. Looking right at me the whole time.
It's like, scratch my belly or I'm gonna lay here and complain forever!!!! 🙂

To add to the _"to those that don't know"_ comments, while this sounds like growling, the dog did not display ANY outward signs of aggression. To someone that isn't familiar with rotts, this could sound like a warning, but lemme tell you what: if a rott is actually pissed at you, there will be NO confusion about it.
