This is the first of nine superb performances that Diana gave on the 2021 TV contest _ShowMaskGoOn_, when she was 18.
She won the contest.
It was a genuine contest, not a talent show. The other contestants were all professional singers. You saw them at the end, because the judges of each performance were the other contestants, together with a different "guest" judge for each of the nine episodes.
The guy who is first to stand up is the guest judge. For him to have been so awe-struck by Diana's performance says it all. He is a world renowned operatic tenor who is married to one of the greatest superstar operatic sopranos of our age (Anna Netrebko).
To put the performance in context, there are two things you have to know about Diana's art.
Firstly, this performance is not in any way typical. She can sing anything, and do so in multiple languages. She has given wonderful, spell-binding performances of folk, country, jazz, blues, rock, pop, salsa, flamenco, ethnic and opera in Russian, English, Spanish, German, French, Ukrainian and Arabic.
Secondly, although she was 18 here, she had already been a superstar for five years, having acquired total command of the stage, and an ability to immerse herself in, and express, any song's persona, even earlier.
Probably her first true masterpiece was a music video for a song "Joan of Arc" that she recorded in the studio when she was 13.
The song tells the story of Joan's trial and execution by burning at the stake. Live on-stage performances that she had given of it were so powerful that they decided to recorded her in the studio and make a music video to illustrate her performance, using silent clips from Luc Besson's film "The Messenger" about Joan.
Anyone who is struck by this performance of "Can't Help Falling in Love" should see this video, or even better, listen to it audio-only.
It is even more shocking.
The consummate artistry and profound emotional intensity and depth with which she sings of Joan's torment, and of the iniquity of her executioners, is simply unbelievable. Even though she was only 13, her timbre is stunning, and every note she sings is brilliantly nuanced and coloured, and crafted by a true master.

Who is Diana Ankudinova? Diana was born in May 2003 in the Far East of Russia. (Height: 5'7" / 5'7") She did not have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived... and she abused the child and tried to drown her. One day, this 3-year-old girl was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage where she finally found love... by Irina Ponik, a masseuse who treated the children at the children's home. Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old. Diana had difficulty speaking, cried a lot and was still very frightened, but she could sing cartoon songs. A doctor recommended singing lessons. And so, singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And it all began... Diana has something primitive, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest type of female voice (her range C3-D6 ). Diana's voice also sometimes has a polyphonic undertone. You will hear: Her voice sounds an octave below the t he voice she sings. (But not everyone can hear that). Diana also has a perfect ear and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a child. Diana impressed with her talent in more than 50 national and international competitions. In 2018 and 2019, Diana participated in a unique competition and won twice. This project is unique in the world, an international TV contest: 'You are Super', especially for adopted and orphaned children. The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final was held at the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to Youtube and soon had millions of fans. She is our goosebumps The producers of the project help the finalists to start their studies and encourage their creativity. Diana won a scholarship. Igor Krutoy, here as a member of the jury, gave her a small apartment (37 m² / 398.26 ft²) in Moscow. There, in the small apartment she lives with her mother and grandmother, she was able to start her vocal training with the best teachers. 2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student one year earlier than 'normal'. That shows how smart and hardworking she is. She applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is totally normal and healthy. Now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute of Theater and Variety (Juilliard similar to GITIS) She is already composing songs and we will definitely hear her own work soon.

Wonderful reaction, subscribed!  This performance was from a Russian show that aired in the fall of 2021, and ran for 9 weeks. Diana was 18 at this time. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other.  There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course of the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles.


Diana is 15 years old in the following video, singing a cover of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game, giving it a more "tribal" sound. She's a contralto, even at the age of 15, has a unique and otherworldly voice, and a commanding stage presence.


She is performing on the Russian TV show You Are Super, a show for disadvantaged children to display their talents that they otherwise would not be able to.


Diana (dee-ah-na) was abandoned by her abusive mother at the age 3 and placed in an orphanage, diagnosed with cognitive impairment. Her adoptive mother had her enroll in singing lessons to help with some speech problems due to abuse and neglect. Her singing talent was immediately noticed and the rest, as they say, is history.

Diana is an emotional roller coaster, a force of nature. How does she do it? She is a dramatic contralto and polyphonic, so the low notes are her comfort zone and she can produce two notes at the same time. She was 18 in this competition, 20 now. What next? Try going back to her at 14 "Rechenka" or 15 "Wicked Game". Her recent performance of Zimmer's "Dune" is pure power. Her original, "The day you" shows her musicality beautifully.

She is absolutely Mesmerizing to watch Perform Live. I have been a fan for five years and there’s no ☝🏽 one else who can sound like her Contralto low tones and she’s polyphonic so you hear two notes 🎶 at one time. It sounds like a Bose Speaker 🔊 with surround sound. Recently, her range has expanded and she hit a high note of D6 and it makes me 😢 every time I hear her vocals. She can control her voice and sing anything she chooses. On how she does it then the answer is that she is a very very young Polyphonic Dramatic Contralto with an extreme range and total control over her instrument, these words describe some super rare traits that can appear on a female human voice but it is the first time that all of them manifest on the same person which make her unique in the world of music, not just today but since ever.
You will never hear something like her anywhere else.
Contralto is the deepest female vocal type, the male counterpart is Bass only Contralto is much much rarer, it appears only on 2% of the female population, Dramatic Contralto is a subcategory that defines the deepest, darkest most powerful of the Contraltos, we are counting on fingers right now on how many Dramatic Contralto singers there are in the world but on top of that she is also Polyphonic, she can manipulate all her resonators in order to amplify her voices overtones and produce that unique 3D multiple voice sound that sounds completely digital but it is not if we add her range and her absolutely unique Timbre you have people wondering "How does she do it ?"

You have to absolutely listen to more from her because if anything else i can guarantee you that what she does with her sound you will never hear anywhere on this planet and keep in mind that what you listened on this video from an 18 year old Diana (20 currently) in nowhere near close her limits, she can go lower she can go higher and she can go far far more complex than this.
She redefines singing and music as she goes along her life.

Great reaction! Diana is a phenomenal singer. She is a dramatic contralto and has won numerous competition shows is Russia. She was 18 yo, I believe when this was recorded. In addition to her low range, she sings with polyphonic overtones, giving a weird element to her voice.
