I have an Engineering degree. Never fully understood this in college. You broke it down really good. I interviewed with a major airline in America many years ago. It was for their Revenue Management division.They gave me this as part of an ambushed technical interview. I flunked. But I was being nostalgic now and decided to learn it. So I found this video. It has cleared it up.

C=1, 5, 8, 3
Question is about intersection so 1 is present in A' and B' and C so answer is 1/30 . Easy way to do last example .

3:20 why is part g not 11/30, i thought union meant its the region which is not shaded.

shouldn't g be 6/30 because 2 and 8 are both in the "not B" zone so they should be excluded?

For question (i) i got 2/30. As the region between A and B is 2, not 1?

So the cross hatch method only works for intersection but not union?
