Crucial GED® Math Basics, Lesson 5: Order of Operations, Experienced, #12

Students who simply memorized the PEMDAS acronym in order to remember the order of operations will often make a crucial mistake in this type of example. However, it is crucial that you understand the order of operations more deeply than a memorized pneumonic. The GED Test often directly tests this skill, simplifying arithmetic expressions featuring exponents, in the non-calculator section. Even more importantly, this skill is crucial to the algebra you need for the test and for your college classes.

i've always used PEMDAS for the order of operations, and had never even heard of GEMA until now, but it really does make a big difference. i was always confused when a group (parentheses) was elevated to another power, and now i understand! thanks so much!
