Unfortunately most companies only stick to the pay structure that the BOD approves. So I’m in my 6th year and I just found out that a 1 year employee is making more than me. I have many years of experience before this job, and she is about 30 years younger than me. The company doesn’t really care how good you are at your job, only that your pay stays within the min and max. Good points made in the video as well.

As it stands right now, the company I work for is having a hard time getting new people for the job I do, it's called Plant Mechanic, and we deal with mostly the heating and cooling of commercial buildings, we do water treatment and operate boilers and pretty much deal with all the utilities of a building amongst other things, as far as I can see, even our competitors are having trouble attracting new talent, so I fully understand why they raise the starting salary to try to attract potential candidates, what I do not like and will NOT do is train new hires who are starting out at a higher wage than me, that is NOT fair, it's down right insulting in my opinion to expect me to train people who make more than me, it tells me that not only do you not value me and my work, but you also don't care I have to watch them get ahead while I fall behind on the payscale... if you want to hire new people and pay them more, go for it, it's your money, but pay for their training too.

The company should know this is going to eventually get out that the new guy is making more. It's not new guys fault, but the company is really opening up a can of worms with this.
