Dead Reckoning: Letters of Marque Review - There's More Treasure Out There Then We Knew...

After year of the New Sea being the dominion of cutthroat pirates, and daring merchant adventurers, the empires of the old world have turned their gaze towards its waters.

Letters of Marque is the third Saga expansion for Dead Reckoning. It contains 2 distinct but interconnected sets of expansion content. The first is "Flags of the Old World", a non-saga based set of content that introduces 2 empire boards, new resources called "Prime Cargo", new ship upgrades and a new "Explorer" card for each player's deck. The second is a new Saga, which, like to prior Saga expansions, contains encounters, mysteries, cards and content all to be organically while playing the game.

5.0 - My absolutely favorite games. You can pry them out of my cold dead hands.
4.5 - Love this game! At the same time missing something that would make it a 5. Could be hard to table, lacking variability, a little light, etc.
4.0 - Really great game, almost always keeping, although has meaningful complaints as to what takes away from the experience.
3.5 - Really enjoyed, don't love it, may lose out to better games but the idea of never playing again is a bit sad.
3.0 - A good game, would play and suggest with the right people, if I never played it again wouldn't lose any sleep.
2.5 - A game I'd play again , but will never suggest it myself
2.0 - A game I don't want to play again
1.5 - A game I can't find any reason to recommend
1.0 - A game that is just bad.

Backed out of this Kickstarter first time around at the very last moment. Jumping back in this time following all the great reviews

To get the same stuff that was included in the first campaign's all-in costs double in this campaign! I'd love to hear Alex give a "should you back it" analysis on this expansion. At $59 + $16 shipping, it's as much or more than many entire games. Even just the base game at $95 shipped is far from a deal, given this game's components. Don't get me wrong. The All-in pledge of the first campaign was a bargain, but nothing in this latest campaign seems to be.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the base game upgrade pack. It seems like some significant rules changes

The thing I am pondering having the base and saga 1 - yet not playing saga 1 is if picking up more is right for me. Still not sure. Will aim to get more games in during the campaign & do enjoy the plays we have done with it.

How is just the base game? $80 vs $240 all in is a big swing.

Aaand you made me to hunt for Dead Reckoning....

...and I succeeded! Somehow I've managed to pull out of nowhere a Dead Reckoning in....Poland.

I'm so eager to play this game! Despites it was horrendously expensive here in Poland....Thinking about getting LoM since PM is still open. I'm afraid that they will be no longer available later on....especially in EU.

Will we see some playthrough's of Dead Reckoning from you during the campaign?

Looks like it's available for $65 at a store. Is that worth it?

I really don’t like that LoM which prevents the loser of a battle from gaining plunder. It would just make the battle less fun no matter which side I was on. Seems like an ok expansion, but it’s the cost of a full game at retail. I can pass on it.
