The Corvette Z06 Breaks All The Rules - An Absolute Masterpiece

The 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 V8 Engine Is A Monumental Leap Forward

The 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 breaks all the rules you thought you know.
1. What's faster, a car with more or less power?
2. What's more powerful, a large supercharged engine, or a smaller naturally aspirated engine?
3. What has a wider, flatter torque curve: a supercharged engine, or a high revving naturally aspirated engine?
4. What uses less fuel, a car that makes more, or less power?

Compared to the C7 Z06, the C8 Z06 is an improvement in every way, and yet on paper you might not see why. It's a stunning feat of engineering, and a masterclass in supercar design. What an absolute joy to drive!

Totally agree. By going mid engine it bumps the vette into a new class of car and still retains the best price for the performance

I’ve watched a hundred videos on the c8 z06 and this by far is the best at breaking down the how and why it performs so well. Thanks for a fresh perspective on this car.

You know you have mastered your craft when you can narrate a technical video, drop some sly remarks, and drive the car.

I was impressed by all the choices GM made in the C8 Z06, but when Jason talked about engine efficiency and the oil bath, I was blown away by the GM engineers really going the extra mile in this engine design. This is how big companies should compete, by leveraging their economies of scale to put more resources into R&D.

This has to be one of the biggest ICE updates I've seen for over a decade (for a mass produced car). Just the vacuum/oil sealed system for each pair of cylinders is amazing. Not only does that create less turbulent air, but the vacuum should reduce the amount of foam and also drastically cut the likelihood of oil starvation from G forces. It also slashes the time the oil takes to make it's way around the passages. Congrats to Chevy for documenting and making this information available. This is by far the most engineered production US engine I've ever seen. WOW!

If a channel like yours had been around when I was in school, I’d have taken a much more active interest in physics!
Love how you make it understandable and practical. Great job.
Good to see American Muscle still bringing it!

I really do think the C8 Corvette is like the NSX from the 90's: It's supercar performance and supercar looks, for a price that its supercar competitors (lambo/ferrari) simply cannot match. It's too bad we can't have the C8 for American prices, here in Europe.

I generally don't have a very high opinion of GM, but I have to say, I'm very impressed what they've been doing with the Corvette the last half decade. It's seriously impressive.

I love the hit on Dodge "it now has 808 hp so now it's better"

That IMTV Calibration chart is stunning. It really is amazing what GM has done with the Corvette.

I love the passive aggressive sarcasm about the dual overhead cams 😅

8:30. Seeing the details provided by Chevrolet, regarding their exact design specifications. This is a radical departure from the standard of withholding certain design specs, they actually provide details such as the exact thickness of each of the piston rings, and provide figures for weight in comparison to old parts. Those pistons are the slimmest, most low profile pistons I've ever seen. This is what consumers have been wanting all along, transparency about the engineering. This is also the biggest accomplishment of any engine in GM's history, because of how reliable and durable the new engine is. Ford and Chrysler have had remarkably consistent engine failures with all their new generation engines, mainly with their 4 and 6 cylinders.

It’s a turn-key toy, air conditioned and track ready that’s for sure.

Performance is impressive and the transmission shifts lightning fast.

I liked the video very much. Your reaction to the throttle response is so genuine ❤

The fact that you can explain all this while also driving a Z06 is very impressive.

It’s never been about how much power you have, it’s how much is transferred to the ground effectively

I applaud GM for jumping into both DOHC 4 valve and flat plane crank for the LT6. Yes there are existing problems but it’s worth doing.

I love that big child-like smile on Jason's face every time he revs the engine 😄 I've never seen him so happy driving the car. And I totally agree with what he said about it! That's the supercar I would get. I had a chance to service those when I was an apprentice (I had to quit my job due to some reasons) and I absolutely loved it!

I was able to get my allocation for mine TODAY. I went with ceramic matrix gray with the red interior.

This car is literally a masterpiece. I absolutely can not wait to get it.

I almost didn’t watch this video, I was like “eh… corvette? Meh.” But i knew you’d have something interesting to say and I was correct. The part about the oil management and the vacuum and complementary pistons pushing and pulling air and less aerodynamic resistance on the cams all had my head spinning. Really impressive how these engineers come up with these clever ways to gain power and efficiency.
