Neil Chapman’s book is wonderful, I really like the layout of it. My grandmother used to grow carnations in her garden as well and my mum used to grow dianthus, which I think are related. I wore L’Air du Temps back in the 80’s, loved its gentle air, but I haven’t smelt what’s currently available though at Chemist Warehouse. While I have not sampled it, I do remember people recommending Sweet William by Carner Barcelona along with the Oriza Legrand. I’m very curious about the Floris though. Taker care💛

A list of things to smell and pay attention to is always good. I have a bottle of l’air di temps so I’ll have to see if I can smell the carnation in it!

Being a gal of a certain era… also long for the spicy carnation. Remembering Maja by Myrugia… still lovely!🌺🌺🌺

A couple are Comme des garçons carnation and Lorenzo Villoresi - garafano. Let’s start a petition to bring carnation back! It’s great ☺️

great selection of carnations, Pep. My favourite carnation scent is Jul et Mad's Fugit Amor.

One of my favorite notes. I often buy carnations: they last for ages and I love their unassuming happy character and retro-kitschiness. Here in the Netherlands they are cultivated devoid of scent, sadly. Prince Bernard, spouse of our former queen Beatrix, used to wear a carnation as his buttonhole flower.

One of my all-time favorite carnations, and top ten desert island fragrance is Metalys by Guerlain. It's an outrage that it was discontinued. Admittedly, it is totally old-school in its style: a warm, thick, decadent, spicy, golden floriental. Just glorious.

I also adore Etro's Dianthus, discontinued rather quickly as well, I believe. This is more of a single-minded carnation, still warm and quite spicy, but much more light-footed, pinker.

Villoresi's Garafano is one of those rare 'humorous' and quite brassy perfumes. I wear this about one time a year, when I've got a cold and am not able to smell anything but this. It's rambunctious, loud - I associate it with a tuba lol - and a bit waxy, perhaps the Bulgarian rose and musk combo. It has the most clove of all my carnations.

Infusion d'oeillet by Prada is very Spanish and soapy to my nose. It is all carnation but rooted in a fatty and soapy rather than earthy patchouli. The soapy, fatty patchouli that is also front and center in Secret Melange by Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier, paired with cloves among other spices and florals; this too smells totally of Spain to me. (Perhaps a video idea? Scents that remind you of or you associate with certain countries, regions, cities?)

Lutens' Vitriol d'oeillet is quite different, very peppery and prickly, more refreshing than warming.

I detect carnation in another desert island scent, Vol de Nuit - but it strikes a melancholic note here. And it's prominent in YSL's vintage Opium (together with clove). Carnation pairs beautifully with orange blossom (and leather) in En Avion by Caron, especially in the vintage (it was rereleased at some point, but probably has been long discontinued as well).

Would love to try the Hiram Green and Floris. Probably did smell Oriza Le Grand's Oeillet and would like to revisit. Happy someone else appreciates the underdog among floral notes!

I have L'Air du Temps, nice but a bit floral. The best ever for me (long discontinued and back then only available in one store) was Albert Nipon. Fabulous frangrance. I agree, it is a smell of the past and dislike the trend for fruit smelling perfumes. Bring back the carnation ❤ I should think those yoiu mention might be hard to track down in the UK...

Carnations last very well in a vase as well. I have to go put on my Prada now, lol. These others sounded amazing. 🙏✨🧪

I have the L’Artisan carnation you mention and I really like it, it’s very comforting with the soft lotion type nuances on drydown that carnation often gives my nose

I'm a fan of Lui. Taking me back to the 70's does Pierre Cardin PH, a carnation experience on the cheap. Cheers Pep.

Have been meaning to get a sample of PHILTRE forever. Love carnation, my birth month flower. Looking forward to a follow-up when you try all the others you mentioned! 🥰

I'm also on a Carnation quest for sometime now. Should try Hiram Green Philtre. By the way I found recently nice Carnation from Xerjoff call "Regio". Spicy Carnation in the opening. But kind of boring dry down with clean musky, Sandalwood accord. ☺️

I love carnation scent and I wish I could find a carnation scent with grapfruit also. I'm so tired of vanilla and grapefruit or gardenia and grapefruit. Love your video, very informational.

I don't have many carnation dominant perfumes, but I like this style, so now I have a good list to sample if I come across any of them.
I do have Casamorati 1888- Carnation, clove, neroli that settles into a creamy amber. Def spicy and floral and I love it.

Angelos l'Œillet is excellent soliflore but overall a bit too sharp for me. i like Grace d'Orient much more from Angelos on this theme. it's also very carnation prominent scent but added a bit more florals-musk-benzoin to soften and to colorize.

I do love carnation's scent! I grow the small ones in my garden. I adored 0ld Spice when I was a teenager, I also remember CINNABAR that had carnation in it. I enjoyed Garofano by Santa Maria Novella too. Later Lutens Vitriol d Oeillet become my fav signature scent for years. I can suggest OEILLET ROUGE, by Dawn Spencer Hurvitz, among the fairly new creations, I love it it's s a honeyed spicy carnation spell ! Then she did another one with a very nice take on carnation called FLEURISTE.

Vitriol d'Œillet is good, but it's not currently on the Serge Lutens web site. Another discontinued scent which you might be able to track down is Comme des Garçons Carnation, from the Red Series. It's pretty much a straight up carnation soliflore. I really like it.
