Is a Com-Pac 23 the right sailboat for you? Find out why I chose this boat. Is it as tough a mini cruiser as they say?

Reminds me of my Catalina 22. That thing is a beast. Never fails me.

Great to see you post again, glad to hear your out having fun sailing, and super job on the video! We are covered in snow in the upper Peninsula, and around four months away from any sailing. We were able to sail ours some last year (first time) and spend a couple overnighters... Lessons, try to leave anything extra at home, organize stuff better, try to get more comfortable cushions for sleeping... maybe replace original foam in cushions with better, maybe use a cut mattress topper??

Sorry no suggestions for the wire slapping without taking the mast down...—tighten the wire a smidge?

I had a ComPac 23 in the 80s. I sailed extensively along the Mississippi Sound and Gulf. Got caught in some pretty heavy weather a few times. These boats are solid, fun to sail, and easy to maintain.

Glad you are enjoying it. I need to fix my mast wires as well, but my mast is down right now. I just received my new foil rudder blade from ruddercraft and am looking forward to using it in a couple months. It looks very nice and I will do a video on it.

I have an 87 and i love it!
I sail the Biscaine bay in Miami, Florida, it’s shallow on some spots but great for this boat.
Recently I needed the hinges for the storage door and stopped by Hutchins Yachts in Clearwater, Fl and was so nice to see this Family continuing building this wonderful craft with so much care an attention to details..

Years ago I had a Cal 25 with a custom trailer. I would have it loaded on the trailer at the marina and bring it home for the winter. Had external halyards but slapping wires in the mast. I hoisted the bottom of the mast to a 2nd floor window. I then blew styrafoam peanuts into the mast with a vacuum cleaner. . All the neighbors and my wife thought I was crazy. Then I opened the laundry room window and was able to get the mast down the staiirs into the basement. Wonder if that old Cal is still afloat.

I'm in the middle of a complete refit of my Compac 23/3. EVERY single part/piece has been stripped and the hull, deck and cabin repainted. Feel free to reach out with any questions. I've owned mine for 12 years. Good luck!

Put a foam swim noodle on the mast to keep the slapping down.

I'm really surprised that with a boat that size you didn't add a spray dodger to match the Bimini. With such a shallow free board due to the boats size, i would think that a dodger would help especially in the Bay when the seas are up.

you do any fishing or camping on that?

Maybe drill a small hole in mast shoot in can of foam

Your jib sheets are wrong….run between the upper and lower shrouds…..Jenny sail will run to outside, storm jib to inside
