My very first gold coin was a 1943 Mexican 50 Peso coin. I walked into my local coin shop in Phoenix looking for a buffalo or libertad. They didn't have any, but the guy was like hold on, I have a Mexican 50 peso. He sold it to me for about $70 over spot, which was solid. Until I got home and realized the 1943 year was an error coin and low mintage. It routinely sells for about a $500 premium (sometimes more). The 1943 ones don't have a denomination on them and were accidentally minted with "37.5g oro puro" on each side. I got lucky the coin shop worker (was an employee, not the owner) didn't know about the error!

Is this where the desire for the Mexican 50 pesos started?

I currently have 4 of them Centenarios, a 1921 which was the 1st year minted, the 1922, the 1931 which was the 2nd lowest minted and 1943 with the Lowest mint of all the years. Looking to buy all 16yrs.
