Tracing Whale Evolution: Origin of Cetaceans

Whale evolution is an enigma, it is a testament of the potency of evolution by natural selection, in shaping organisms to whatever ways the environment demanded. Just a century ago, no one would have guessed that whales were descended from a small deer-like animal.
They underwent a drastic change from a racoon-sized land-dwelling animal to the biggest animal to have ever existed on the planet, and in between, they took the shape of uncanny otherworldly creatures.
In this video we take a look back at one of evolution's most epic tales and the bizarre animals whose remains taught us the story.

This is way too high quality for a 15k subs channel, it deserves 1mil subs.

the fact that an animal as enormous as a blue whale is a filter feeder is hilarious to me, but i'm also SO glad they aren't like orcas

Fun Fact related to this video: Andrewsarchus used to be connsidered as a important genus of the transition of Whales from Land living to Ocean dwellers. Later on it was now considered to be closer to Hippopotamuses than Whales and this was also a case to another member of its total claude, The Enteledontidaes that were thought to be close to Pigs but was later considered to be closer to Hippopotamus.

Indohyus: Pakicetus, don’t go into the water, pakicetus, the environment will force you to adapt
Pakicetus: Shut up Indohyus, there are so many resources in there
And the rest is history

It’s crazy that this lineage went from mouse deer to crocodile to seal to sea serpent and then to apex predator within the span of just fifty million years.
