New Echo Pop: The Good, The Bad, & The Confusing!

The All-New Echo Pop is a more affordable echo option that brings a new half sphere design. The Pop is about the same size as the Echo Dot and is available in Lavender Bloom, Midnight Teal, Glacier White and Charcoal. The LED light ring has been moved to the top next to the volume and mute buttons, as well as three microphones. Unfortunately, the action button used to call up Alexa has been removed. Like the Echo Dot, the Pop utilizes a front-facing speaker design, offering quality sound. Echo Pop also supports the latest Matter standard. Unfortunately the Echo Pop lacks a temperature sensor and motion detection capabilities found in the Echo Dot. In terms of performance, there is not much difference between the two devices. When it comes to audio the Echo dot still shines above the Echo Pop. While the Echo Pop provides clear audio, it falls short in bass. You can adjust the bass and EQ settings in the Alexa app. Why did Amazon released the Echo Pop with inferior sound quality, fewer features, and a negligible price difference? Please share your thoughts in the comments section. I still recommend the Echo Dot 5th generation, as it offers superior sound and additional functionality, despite being slightly more expensive. However, if you value the design of the Echo Pop and prioritize affordability, it performs just as well as any other Echo.

I like that you edited when you referred to "Alexa" to keep our echo devices from flipping out

I bought one and really like it. I like that the speaker faces forward. It responds to voices quickly and I like where the yellow light notifications are located. Just seems like a nice design. Also the colors are nice. I never use any of the buttons on top so I don’t care that it only has 3 buttons. The speaker is also nice and clear.

Got an Echo Pop free when I bought a discounted Ring Plus doorbell camera during the Prime Day Sales. Already have two 2nd gen. hockey puck dots that work just fine. I rarely listen to music through the Dots - I crank up the hifi for that. The Pop should more than meet my needs & it was free. 😉😁

I needed to replace my 10+ year old Alexa Tap for my bathroom. It just so happened that they released the "Pop" at the same time. The cost was the main reason I got the Pop instead of the Dot because all I really needed was a device to turn on lights and fans and listen to podcasts in the bathroom. It's worked out great and the sound is fine for my needs. I When I listen to music I use my 2 Echo's that are paired for stereo.

I like the look. I bet it will look even nicer when the version with a clock comes out.

It's an echo spot without the screen. I loved the spot when they came out

The only time I use the action button is to reconnect if I lose my internet settings. Not having it is no big deal to me personally.

I've more or less stopped using my Amazon devices. Some have started talking randomly and/or responding when they shouldn't be capable

I miss the Ech Dot 3th gen. They fitted in nicely everywhere, they were small and easy to mount without being that very noticeable and they had quite some decent sound already. When you needed or wanted you could plug them into you home cinema set for better sound.

Those balls were the worst design... Verry ugly to have all those balls around your house and you actually could not nicely blend them in.

Don't like the design of the spot that much either. But it's much better then the 4th/5th gen.

And probably Amazon don't likes to sell their stuff... They only always sell the black versions in my country. And they don't allow to order the verry same speaker from other countries.

They have kind of a strange marketing strategy there...

So, these are <$20 bundled with a smart plug on prime day.
That, is exactly what this was made for.
Which I will be buying into for rooms I am not frequently in, but would benefit from one.

This is probably for people who want to
enter the Amazon ecosystem through the cheapest means possible, are going to buy multiple Echo devices all at once, and could care less about sound quality. The savings are apparent if you buy it in bulk. Buying 5 at once automatically saves you $50 compared to 5 Echo Dots

The pop was on sale for $19.99. I'm looking forward to trying it out. You get what you pay for, in this instance I'm thrilled! :)

I think it’ll be good for my new kitchen especially with the prime day bundle deal that’s available

Definitely like the look better but should just add the temp and motion sensor plus clock and sell it for more money

The Dot is already affordable, so I agree with the questions as to why the Pop exists.... it's a wee bit baffling. I've an old puck Dot and I would not "upgrade" to a Pop. As to the design... the Dot is a Dot.... the Pop is like an half lemon you're about to squeeze.

It does seem to be a solution in search of a problem.

The cheaper price / production cost for Amazon enables them to offer these for free when you buy other Amazon products (I got one free with a cheap fire tv). This exposes new customers to the Alexa group of products. Maybe they see it as a way to get new customers?? Just a guess.

If you push volume up and down at the same time it wakes the mic like the action button

I bought an echo pop and if I don't give me credit card info I can't use it. All I wanted to do is listen to local radio or as an alarm clock. SO WHY DO I NEED TO INPUT MY CREDIT INFO?
