Kevin Hall is the integrative physiology section chief at the National Institutes of Health, where his lab investigates how metabolism and the brain adapt in response to a variety of interventions to diet and physical activity. His team conducts experiments in both humans and rodents to better understand the complex mechanisms regulating macronutrient metabolism, body composition, and energy expenditure. In addition, Hall is a widely published scholar on issues related to diet and public nutrition.

DEBATE: SHOULD WE EAT MORE PROCESSED FOODS?

Processed food is bad for you, right? Well, there’s more to this story. As new technologies create foods that can’t be made in home kitchens, such as plant-based meats and dairy products made with plant proteins, the question of whether we should all be consuming more highly processed foods is up for debate. Advocates say a substantial increase in food processing is the best way to feed growing human populations while also reducing food waste. We should trust – and invest – in food technology that can make our global food supply healthier and more sustainable, including highly or ultra-processed foods. Opponents argue that these kinds of foods are often less nutritious, and are commonly linked to adverse health indices, particularly when it comes to ultra-processing. As this debate blooms, Intelligence Squared partners with the Institute of Food Technologists to debate this question: Should We Eat More Processed Foods?

Unintended? No, those board members and major stockholders have reduced their nutritional contents, added addictive ingredients, made excessive profits, and none of that is coincidental.

There are two different subjects here. One is about ultra processing food to be addictive, ( bet you can't eat just one), and the other is using ultrasound and man makes to feed the world. So, why can't we have it both ways? Feed the third world with your man made meats and dairies, ( if they can afford them?), and let rest of the world eat what they can afford and shop for! This guys study, by the way, has been ripped up, down and sideways for not being conducted properly, with a wash out period between! He is also not identifying the categories honestly! He was trying to prove that plantbased was better than low carb, but, he didn't use low carb values, ( less than50 grams of carbs), and with no washout period, the low carb actually improved the plant results and the plant based derailed the low carb results. Was he surprised ? Yes, but only because he wasn't professional enough to actually ask a low carb expert what values should be used, instead he guessed, leaning towards higher values, because he couldn't imagine that anyone can do low carb for real.He was also surprised because he has no knowledge of the Randle Cycle. Carbs block out fat burning, accumulate ing fat and constant carb burning. When plant based says that carbs are the preferred fuel they are misleading followers. Its not preferred, fats are, its burned first to keep it from damaging artery linings. Carbs deplete the lining protection, allowing glycated, damaged, small dense LDL to penetrate the wall, resulting in inflammatory storm setting up plaque formation. Glucose competes with essential salt electrolytes to hold water in arteries, doubling the volume. You need salt, don't need carbs. Look it up, in a not plant based, (biased), science site!
