This is Tool 33 years ago. If you were amazed by this, their music and performances are on a whole other stratosphere now. Maynard is a lyrical genius while Adam, Danny, and Justin bring the music together in layers unlike any other band in the world.

Maynard's performance here is very unsettling. He's portraying someone who is thoroughly broken by addiction and has no hope of ever finding the light again. And he's singing from the addictions perspective.

People say things like he was fd up bc of the stare but has said many times himself early in his career he had high high stage anxiety and one technique to eliminate such is to stare at one spot and focus on breath slowly. That's what he does here.

There’s also an amazing live video of Maynard’s other band, A Perfect Circle, performing “The Outsider” on Jay Leno from years ago, a really good example of Maynard’s live singing.

Both the album version of Pushit or the live Salival version are wonderful. Pneuma is a compositional masterpiece. other's include Jimmy, The Grudge, and Right in two. Thanks for sharing this. Tool is known for having longer songs with odd time signatures and have a very large dedicated fan base. Tool doesn’t have a bad song. Your favorite Tool song is often the one you just listened too along with the previous songs that you’ve heard. Some of the most notable are The Pot, 46&2 (think chromosomes and evolution) The Grudge, Lateralus (Fibonacci sequence song), Pushit Live Salival audio version, Pneuma Danny Carey Drum video by Vic Firth
