Hello Singderellos,

In this video, I react for the first time to the band Tool performing ‘Sober’. In this video, I analyse Maynard James Keenan's magnificent performance, explain and demonstrate his vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great.Tool is an absolutely iconic band, especially in the progressive rock / metal music scene and this will be one of many Tool songs I react to!

I'm so excited to be a part of your singing journey, It's one that truly never ends.

Love you forever,
The Fairy Voice Mother x

I can't believe it took seeing 30 reaction videos of this performance before I found someone that cried, which is the correct response.

There are at least 50 reactions to this performance on YouTube - this is by far the most insightful and sincere.

One of, if not the, most honest, emotional and simultaneously technical, vocal teaching reactors on YouTube.

This song was written about a close friend who suffered drug addiction but while high his artwork found a very different level, it is a poem of both the torment and enlightenment the mind goes through when high and/or coming down, Maynard not only wished to vocally capture the torment of addiction but visually display it too, anyone who has seen a crack addict in real life may recognise the distinctive contortionist moves he displays... for many this is just a historic song for some this is a much deeper performance, a piece of art on another level just like his friend made.

I'm a big reaction video junkie and have seen hundreds of them, if not thousands. this one is my favorite so far. that says a lot, considering that the ones I watch the most are of unsuspecting folks reacting to the disturbing extreme metal that I listen to daily.

I’m a widowed mom with two boys, been on my own for a while now with the boys.. Tool was my boys father’s favorite band, especially this single, and I found his cd a couple weeks ago. It hurt bad, at the same time, it was beautiful.

I can hear the distant sound of the Tool Army approaching...

One of the finest live performances, just so captivating to watch and listen to. Gets me every time.

The microtones of the guitar just set your nerves on edge too...and the pounding drums feel like your chest is about to burst.

The first time I saw the video for this song, it shook me to the core. I am a recovering alcoholic and addict, and this song embodies the pain of addiction. It is an incredibly powerful song, and I loved your reaction. Maynard is out of this world talented.

This performance will always give me goosebumps and bring me to tears, no matter how many teams i rewatch it.
Truly a masterpiece that hits really deep!

I have always agreed with the idea that his posture is part of the performance, evoking an addict in the throes of withdrawal.
Also, with Maynard's anxiety issues, he usually picks a point or person he feels comfortable looking at on stage... imagine being the person he stared at as he belted out this song, eyes just boring through you.
Maybe check out A Perfect Circle, Judith.

Now THAT'S what music is supposed to do to us. Your tears showed Maynard was able to connect YOU to the song through himself and in doing so, feel his pain. BRAVO...well done.

One of the best reactions of Sober live ever!! As a huge Tool fan, I got emotional along with you! And your breakdown of the music as a whole was intelligent and authentic! Great job!! Hugs!❤️

I bought my first Tool CD many moons ago and as I was driving home listening to it I started to cry. I couldn't understand every word (at the time) but the meaning and emotion was conveyed perfectly. MJK is kind of a miracle; in that he shares himself, his ideas, his thoughts, and his memories by creating a bridge from his pain to ours. It is a unique language shared by souls.

The vulnerability, compassion, and emotion, combined with the expertise, technical knowledge, and talent you bring to this channel is mind boggling. I would rather watch you reacting to a song than the actual video of the song. Thank you for coming to me at a time in my life that I desperately needed you. You have so much to offer the world. Thank you!!!!
Love the editing too. You have a much higher calling.

The posture Maynard does in many live performances is amazing. To do those voices in those postures simply amazes me

Oh man....So I was just finishing my 6 year degree in University when a friend of mine asked if I wanted to go to a metal concert to see Maynard. I was already in the car honking the horn, like "Duh, yea of course I want to f'ing go, lets move!"

I never, in my wildest dreams thought we'd be witnessing history. I personally feel, this is Maynards best performance ever. It's like he tapped into the old gods and personified Cthulu on stage. His stare literally melted brains in the first 3 rows and his vocals drove the rest of us into insanity. I think the term I am looking for is visceral. I literally stood there just staring at the stage for I dont know how long afterwards. Could have been 5 minutes, could have been 15 *shrug*, trying to comprehend what I had just witnessed.

It was one of the most intense performances I've witnessed until I went to see Nightwish at Wacken 2013.

Luv your work miss, and taking it this far back that only those of us old geezers would have seen it live is just heart warming. Dont let the greats die, keep us all alive in your reactions !!
