Wunderschöne Aufführung dieser fein komponierten Sinfonie mit seidigen Töne aller Streicher, brillanten Töne aller Metallbläser und, vor allem, milden Töne aller Holzbläser. Der geniale Maestro dirigiert das perfekt trainierte Orchester im gut phrasierten Tempo mit perfekt kontrollierter Dynamik ohne schleppende Töne. Alles ist ausgezeichnet!

What an unusual and unique orchestral balance. Burnished and full bodied, not intended to be subtle or delicate, this is full tilt Brahms. Rich in detail and lustre. The horns readily cut across the orchestral texture in a striking display of volume.

An absolute delight! Unquestionably the best performance of this symphony that I've ever heard. Emotional without being bombastic, restrained without being mannered. Not a single false note, literally or figuratively! Bravo!

It took me a while to become accustomed to this symphony, by this composer whom I very greatly admire, after truly loving his first two...but this fine offering by this director leading a sound body/unit I highly respect, has brought me much closer to it. I thank you again, NDR, for releasing this performance to this medium, where I can repeatedly hear it! 😊😊JAT
