Wow, Buzz. Hearing those voices from the past is cool! I wonder if the kids are still alive. Also, I loved the jokes!

Thank you Buzz for the awesome restore and playback of a home recording. It is so wonderful to see that you brought it back to life. That spool of a mother and two kids is so precious. I think that it was recorded on a recorder that was a Christmas gift or something.

Great job getting the wire system working, so cool! The sound quality was much better than I expected. Hearing the home recording was so nice, so simple and such a reminder of the nice old times. Surreal hearing the young mother and the small children, knowing they were alive and had no idea that thousands of folks would hear their recording almost 80 years later. As you stated, Donny might still be around. Very nice stuff Buzz, thanks for sharing.

I’m going to try and resurrect one of these that sat in my grandparents’ basement for decades. Thank you for these documentaries, they are going to come in handy. I’m hoping maybe we have some lost family recordings we can recover.

You are a magician, Buzz! Another great restoration & fix again! Amazing how clear the voices were, can hear them clearer than some cell phone discussions. "Speak up! Now let's see how it sounds..." Wonder how many times those phrases have been said over the years with home recordings. Memories 🙂

Brilliant job Buzz... I'd never have believed there were any spare parts still knocking around for a 1947 Silvertone wire recorder.... What a great find. The family recording you played last was a real trip back to a time when ordinary peoples voices were generally not heard. Those folks had everything to look forward to back then in contrast to the times we now live in. Merry Christmas Buzz and look forward to seeing part three in the new year.

Hi Buzz. Your Zenith radio friend here. Playing the wire recording brought back memories. Our family purchased a tape recorder (for Christmas) back in the late 50s and of course, everyone "talked into it" to see what they sounded like. I'm sure we made some recordings exactly like what you presented. Hearing this family trying out the recorder really brought back some memories. And I agree with you about how awesome it would be if you located the original people whose voices we heard. As we have moved away from physical media, the chances of the next generation hearing sounds like you played back are decreasing. Everything is "in the phone" today, and I doubt very many folks back up all the photos and recordings when they upgrade to the next new thing.

Great going Buzz, Who hasn't spent way too long finding faults. It works great, it would be amazing if the children in the recording contact you. Merry Christmas to you, Dickel and family.

My dad had that same Weller iron. I think most dads did. (There weren't a lot of choices back then.)
Seeing it brings back memories.
Love the ingenuity of how they used the turntable to do 2 things.

Well Buzz I like your never give up attitude. You keep on it until you find the problem. This time it really paid off who would have known it was one resistor that caused the whole problem. Great work and that has got to be one of the most unique radios I have ever seen. Great job Buzz LL

Nice one Buzz .A freaking 1 Meg anode resistor did the job !
I think It was definitely worth getting the other mech' as it was cheap though !

It was great to listen to that old family recording on wire and it put me in mind of my Dad's earliest recordings of me and my brothers on magnetic tape in the early 1960s.
I look forward to the next instalment .
