In today's video, Buzz takes apart the recorder to replace the rubber on the idler wheel and motor drive pulley, and finds out it's easier said than done. Then later. he runs into more trouble as he tries to fix the play/rewind mechanism. Then he shows off his new microphone to see if it will record. Also, will it record off the radio? We shall see!
To close out the video. Buzz shows 3 clips of different recording methods.

Wow Buzz, that baby records and sounds AMAZING! You did a FABULOUS job getting this little gem in beautiful working condition! Too bad they quit using this technology, because unlike tape, it seems the wire can last a really really long time! O COOL, I would love one of these.

Hi Buzz, the recorder come out great, it's quiet and smooth now. I was told by a radio club member who has wire recorder that the wire stretches and twists over time. A very interesting project Buzz, Cheers 🍻🍻

Those wire recorders sound a lot better than I thought they would. Now I'm sorry I ignored all of the ones I used to see years ago when nobody wanted them. Now I'd like to pick one up to mess with, and haven't seen one yet! (I did find an RCA tape cartridge machine that pre-dates the Compact Cassette, and I think you just showed me how to deal with the idlers in that beast!)

You did a great job with this! I replaced the element in the microphone with a typical dynamic one. My Silvertone console has a wire recorder with a separate record changer and receiver. The recorder has a clock for programming recording of radio shows and a magic eye tube to set the peak recording level. The best way to keep the idler from developing a flat spot is to place the selector between play and rewind so that the mechanism remains completely disengaged.

Yet again, another great job in restoration! I liked Mr. Rogers, but the puppets always creeped me out 😆

What a fussy restoration. No wonder it sat for decades not being used. Good to have donor parts! You're like a dog with
a new bone, so tenacious. Got it working pretty good. Maybe a carbon microphone can replace the old crystal one you
have. It's almost dead. You will need to switch out the PL-68 plug they came with and use that 1/4" plug you have. They
range from 20 to 100 bucks. Great video Buzz.

How fortuitous that you caught that perfect Karoline Leavitt comment! She is amazing and only 27 years old. Congratulations on getting that vintage wire recorder working!

Buzz, you may need a pre-amp with that mike, but it might be cheaper to just pick up another one or different one to test. Thanks for all you do! You have added a lot of knowledge and entertainment to my life with your videos!

Wow, I'd like to have that last machine to cut records. Young people today are going back to vinyl recordings. That machine could be a gold mine!
You are doing a wonderful job restoring your Silverstone wire recorder, improvising in places where needed.
The experience you had ordering the O-rings is another example why I believe we need to get away from ordering online and go back to brick-and-mortar stores, where if you want one or two, you don't have to order 25.

Hi Buzz. Another awesome video. I remember watching Mr Rodgers in School on a black and white TV and PBS before it was ruined by the nut jobs. I hate to imagine what it would be like in today's age. Has always I liked and shared. All my very best.

Mr. Rogers had a microphone in his pocket AND he was happy to see you!

Nice job Buzz! Love that Mr. Rogers. My favorite was when Margaret Hamilton was his guest and explained to the children how she played Wicked Witch of the West.

Mary had a little lamb, whose fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go.
He He! Ha Ha! Ho Ho!
Let's take the microphone apart and see if "experimenting with Buzz" can fix it!
Thanks for another great one Buzz!🍺

Glad ya got to the record player. The 👍 grease basically turns to powder after 50-60 years. This little puppy 🐶 needs to be disassembled, cleaned, and regreased. It is very expensive to have your idler wheel 🛞 rebuilt. The 👍 postage isn't so bad, but at $37.00 apiece, I'd be thinking 🤔 up a way to make my own idler wheels. It looks 👌 like ya lucked out on finding these. Your friend, Jeff. Have two or three beers 🍻 here, too. Your friend, Jeff.

Boy, that Kenny Nolan record is a blast from the past. I don't ever recall hearing it on the radio, but it was on a K-Tel album I got back then called "Music Machine" with Robby the Robot on the front. It was probably the first 'real' album I got, not counting Sesame Street records. Great work as always, Buzz!

I was very impressed with Mr. Roger's vintage record making machine - I had no idea they made portable record lathes, obviously a work of art in it's manufacture - thanks for showing it Buzz.
