You know what i find interesting? Is that the Gorgons were treated by the Greeks like Gargoyles are treated by the Catholics in Europe. An evil looking thing to keep evil away.

Here's an interesting thing: in modern greek "gorgon" (or "gorgona" as it's the modern version) means "mermaid".

I'm glad you did a more in depth video on the gorgons. The Ovid story was becoming so dominant that it was blotting out the rich folk lore of the creatures.

I always thought Medusa was the only one with the petrification gaze, because of her history with Athena. I didn't know her sisters had it too. Great info!

I know it's been a while, I've taken some time out to implement a few new ideas and work on my content, book and overall future plans. Hopefully you enjoy the first video back!

Your voice sounds like it was selectively bred to sound as trustworthy as possible.

Yes finally a video that isn’t just about how she was mortal and that’s what Athena did to her, at least you talked about the other versions and that that version was just one person’s vision of her.

I never really thought about the difference in origin of Medusa and her sisters. I always knew the story of her role as a priestess and her transformation and how there were three Gorgons but it never crossed my mind that they didn't add up. I have always found Medusa's story fascinating and this video makes me want to look into the origins of her sisters in much more detail.
Great video!

Am I the only one who’s just finding out that Medusa’s sisters are not only gorgons like her but also have their own unique abilities. Such as Euryale having a loud scream that could kill anyone and Stheno who has immense murder and feral tendencies.

Stheno means “strong and forceful”
Euryale means “far roaming”

Thanks for bringing out that the Gorgons had the early status of protectors. It makes them no less frightening, but does add a positive aspect to beings we associate with evil.

The new intro is gorgeous and I have no clue why but that little spider crossing the bottom of the screen at 2:10 killed me. Great stuff. Looks & feels better than a big studio production.

Fun fact: Different Hellenised regions had their own Gorgons. E.g. in Egypt/ North Africa, the names Gorgon & Catoblepas were used interchangeably to describe a Wildebeest that could turn you to stone with its gaze!

The new intro looks great and the spider crawling around the border and out of the tree is a nice touch.
