Week 9: Mounjaro (tirzepatide) for weightloss in non-diabetic. 2nd week on 7.5mg #zepbound

THIS WEEK: my second week on 7.5mg PLUS usual updates on weight loss and side effects PLUS reflecting and comparing to previous diets I have been on.

I have no underlying conditions. I am not Type 2 Diabetic. Nor am I pre-diabetic. My A1C is perfect. I have no previous experience of taking weight-loss medication. I am sharing my journey with an update on side effects, weight loss, appetite. Mounjaro is manufactured by Eli Lilly. It is FDA approved for T2D, but not yet solely for weightloss in non diabetics. It is a weekly injection which is GLP-1 and GIP medication. It is prescription only and, if eligible, can be obtained for $25 a month with manufacturer’s coupon.

I am not a medical practitioner so I cannot advise, I can only share my experience of this new medication.

The appetite suppression is incredible. It’s given me so much freedom. I now only eat out of need. Like a normal person who doesn’t have a weight problem or concern. In all actuality I noticed this from week 1. I don’t even think about food except trying to figure out how to get enough protein in. At work it’s quite common to walk into our break room and there’s boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts sitting there. On this drug they aren’t even a temptation. I can literally smell the sweetness of the donuts while co-workers are eating them right across from me, and it’s not an issue. I will have to say that it has also taken away some joy with eating as well. Some foods may not taste right either. But, I’ll take all that to have this freedom. I’m type 2 diabetic and my blood sugar has never been so well controlled. This drug has truly changed my life. 😊

Oh and like you I have also lost weight every week. My lowest has been .6 and my highest 3.8 lbs. In 14 weeks I’m down 37 lbs. I’ve never had success like this before. In fact this is the lightest that I have weighed in at least 26 years. 😊

Hello Mimi, I'm thrilled for you doing so well. I hope you have continued access to the medication. It really is uncanny how it shuts off the food noise. To figure out what I wanted to eat i used to picture myself eating it and that's how I decided my meals and snacks. I don't have that and have like panic sometimes when my husband is picking where we have dinner I struggle trying to figure out what I'd like because there is nothing I desire. 😅 when I had food aversion it was even harder. I skipped meals.

Mimi I completely agree… it’s perplexing that there’s no hunger pains. I find it so odd and frankly refreshing that losing this weight is not a product of battling hunger pains. It really is miraculous what this drug does! I hope you get the reaction figured out. I haven’t experienced any reaction in any of my injection sites and I’ve now used all three injection sites (arm, thigh, stomach) I’ve seen no difference in any site. Have a great week!!

Congratulations on your weight loss! I think the 1.5 - 3.0 lbs/wk is a great rate of loss. I fear losing large amts. too fast you know? I'm glad you have addressed the skin irritation you been dealing with 😊 Your explanation of the Mounjaro type/mechanism of weight loss and how different it has been. I feel the same way!!! I don't even miss being hungry if that makes sense..lol. So proud of your continued determination and it really shows!

I am hopefully going to be starting mounjaro this month. I had WLS/VSG many years ago. I had that same feel of appetite suppression for about 6 to 8 months afterwards. I believe it was because of the reduction of grehlin when they remove part of your stomach. However, your body copes by replacing it after a while.The hunger came back. I did lost a lot of weight but did regain, not all of it but enough to be considered obese again. Anyway I would like the feeling that you described re appetite. Where you can feel it but control your eating through it.

Are you done any exercises while you’ve been on the medication ??
