You are the only person on YT that seems to have already dove into this topic and I AM BEYOND IMPRESSED! I have a 3090 and have seemed to have tried everything to get quality clips but I can barely even achieve a 1440p 60fps recording while playing NFS Unbound at Ultra using NVENC. This video completely had me sold on a 4090... The leap is insane.

OBS just pushed a beta with AV1 hardware encoding support for Intel and AMD GPUs, I've already tested it on Intel Arc and it works well for me, looking forward to seeing your results too :)

Not everyone is happy with they 4070TI right now but recording was one of the reasons I wanted to get it.

Just curious what your encoder settings are for recording in OBS. I was using DaVinci Resolve's MKV support when I would record H.264 on my 2080 Super. I just upgraded to a 4080 and trying out AV1. I have discovered a few things:
1. DaVinci Resolve does not support AV1 inside the MKV container, so that needs to be remuxed to MP4. DR only sees the audio tracks in those files. H.264 and HEVC are no problems inside MKV.
2. Even so, DaVinci Resolve (18.1.2) crashes on remuxed 4K MP4 with AV1 at 60FPS (30FPS is no issue). I have not tested MP4 directly recorded from OBS.

I'm using the NVidia recommended settings when recording except using AV1 or HEVC instead of H.264 - however, that page is from 2019. I use MKV to avoid corrupted files if something goes wonky. BTW, I noticed that NVidia seems to have some kind of special optimization for H.264 with QC 15 - the file size is freakishly small compared to other QC levels.

Anyway, I've considered using HEVC for recording in MKV - since DaVinci Resolve seems ok with that and potentially exporting as AV1.

Can you do a video on the dual encoders specifically, AV1 encoding settings etc? I know AMD is going to support AV1 but its unclear if they will dual encode.

Do you think this will be possible with amd RX 7000 GPUS. Was considering those over rtx 4000 series. I mostly game (1080p 360hz) and editing videos professionally. And occasionally record and edit my gaming footage. But like I said was thinking AMD over NVIDIA. Or do you think a guy like me needs Nvidia. I just didn't want to buy a new PSU (mines 850watt) and case.
