It does make sense: venom that thins your blood can treat blood clots, if it kills cells it can kill cancer cells, if it attacks your nervous system it can inhibit pain and so on. The key is dosage, wouldn't recommend getting a snake bite instead of a bandaid...

I lived in Eastern Colorado for a while and there was an old rancher that had been bitten by a baby rattle snake.
He survived and was treated, and he was then known to joke that he wanted to find another rattler because the arthritis, both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, in his bitten arm was so much better than his non-bitten arm.

Not snake related per se, but same theme. When I was a tween/teen, I had a terrible time with warts. My primary doctor tried to clear them up. However, he closed his practice and moved, so it was back to the drawing board. My new primary tried. It worsened. I was referred to a dermatologist. He threw everything but the kitchen sink at them. They worsened. He told me he knew of a doctor who was a wart specialist working on.a research program at the UCFS school of medicine. He said "I don't care how many strings I need to pull, or favors to call in. I WILL get you into that research study."

The medicine in the study was a necrotizing venom from some beetle in the South America rainforest. Freaking hurt like hell. I imagine it being the feeling of having acid poured on the skin. There were doctors from many different countries coming in to observe. It was a weird experience being a lab rat. It worked, for the most part. My skin is thin in the areas, and I have some scars where it was used on my lip. I only had one recurrence when I was 16. I'm 50 now.

My favorite animals are bats, particularly vampire bats. Their saliva has anticoagulant properties. That's also being used to derive blood thinners to help with people who have clots.

It's so wild that animals' negative attributes are used in beneficial ways for humans.

Snakes are so friggin cute they all need boops and love. (This is why i couldn't have a venomous snake i couldn't resist booping the snoot, no matter how dangerous the noodle)

Snakes are a lot more beneficial than people might think. Along with their venom being used for medical purposes, snakes are a great form of pest control as well. Snakes are one of the top predators of mice and rats, which can multiply like crazy, spread diseases, and cause serious agricultural and property damage if left unchecked. Snakes are also not very aggressive, so you don’t need to worry about getting bitten unless you try to hurt the snake first.
