We call the yellow diagonally striped areas here in the US the safety zone and people use them but if you are in an accident in that area, you are likely partially responsible bc they aren't supposed to be used.

I believe its one car allowed in the box if you're trying to turn but oncoming traffic is preventing you from completing the turn.

I only realised this one after my 3rd practical lesson when I was learning. Theory tests in my opinion didn't cover this one properly.
