Using a CENTRIFUGE to concentrate ALGAE for microscopy 🔬 185

Sometimes the concentration of planktonic algae is low. A centrifuge is useful in this case. But it might not be absolutely necessary.

Askenasia sp. is what the jumping ciliate is, which is Incertae sedis CON3P. Bruce Taylor identified it on the forum. I was close, SAL is sister to CON3P on the phylogenic tree. Both are under Alveolata, for anyone interested.

That little fella at 4:19 reminds me of a sea turtle. So cute 😍

Squared shaped diatoms probably are the same as the round ones but on side view 😁

For many eons now, i have always believed that this channel was as popular as chubbyemu or smartereveryday .

This channel oneday will have a revolutionary video that will make 40, 000 subscribers turn into 1.4 million subscribers. That day will happen between 2021 and 2025

i wonder if you have any awkward stories going out and collecting samples and if anyone stopped you to bug you haha

The ciliate at 4:18 may be Mesodinium.
At least it looks very similar in shape.

Centrifuges are responsible for destroying the water table in many areas. Schauberger wrote about this over 100 years ago.

Oliver, have you considered that some of those organisms might be diatoms? Not expressing an opinion, just asking

what will be rpm and for how time required to centrifuge ?

Do any of your microscopes have the power to observe to Covid 19 virus? I’d like to see a video of how “professional labs” work with dangerous viruses and what type of microscopes they use to study these viruses?

Spinning at 5000 RPM would kill most living things myself included...

Those square things... are they just plant cells? Some of them look just like the 'picture book' diagram of a square plant cell including nucleus, could the centrifuge separated them maybe? (By the way I've absolutely no expertise in this area, still trying to learn enough German to read any of the text in Das Leben im Wassertropfen)

Oliver, what reference book(s) do you use ?

Do you think a centrifuge is a good addition to the toolset of an amateur microscopist? I'm thinking about 3d printing one...
