Top 5 Worst Computer Viruses I've Seen on the Help Desk

I discuss the 5 most devastating pieces of malware that I've personally encountered in my career in IT.

Some of these may surprise you, but number one shouldn't...

I know I'm not using the term virus 100% in a technically accurate term.
For this conversation, I consider a "virus" any software that:

1. Deliberately slows a computer down
2. Makes system changes that cripple the normal use of the program or computer
3. Extorts money from its victims
4. Attempts to take over part or all of the victim's computer.

The problem with Windows Vista was that the computers were not powerful enough for it. If you run it on a modern computer, It would run just fine

QuickTime and iTunes - I can't agree more, what pieces of bloatware malicious garbage. Glad to see the back of QuickTime long ago, and iTunes is never allowed on any PC I own.

I'm sorry. But while I agree with cryptolocker, thats about it. I'm not saying your wrong, I'm just saying maybe you should rename your video to worst programs and not worst computer viruses.
Either way, viruses are old and long gone, it should actually be worst malware.

None the less, I deal with hackers on a daily basis where I work. Which is normally not only a couple dos attacks now and then but often we get people trying to brute force our rdp password, send us malware and even try to compromise our dns provider to redirect us to some malware, which we then were told was shut down to protect us from the attack.

I think the worst virus by far is cryptolocker, but even worse is probably Zeus, that botnet that infected a ton of people and still is using the TOR network to hide itself while it collects bank information and can ddos any webserver down, that one.
Or also that one that was recently found that was like Zeus but instead used satellites!

Nothing is unhackable, remember that. Also remember that there is much more worse malware out there especially in the enterprise. Where facing something that is designed to down a whole global network of computers and servers is totally normal.

Vista wasn't that bad after getting updated to SP2. Before that, yeah, terrible (also terrible if you didn't have 2GB+ of RAM and a decent GPU). On a decent rig, running Service Pack 2, it's fine.
