One of the greatest popular musicians ever. A giant. I listen to her every week. "Stoned Soul Picnic". Listen to it, it's complex, evocative, and welcoming. Warm like Summer. She's the most female artist IMHO.

Laura Nyro was, in a word, amazing. She eschewed the spotlight, preferring to let her music speak for itself. Consummate artist. ❤

P.S.: Even Alice Cooper knew about her and loved her. ❤

Amazing woman. I have the autobiography of legendary producer Clive Davis and he speaks about her in it. Gone not forgotten.Love Wedding Bell Blues and Laura's version is very poignant. Thanks Ed. RIP Laura Nyro. 🌷🌄🌈🕊️

I remember watching a documentary on public tv and learning that since her music was incredibly complicated, a lot of musicians struggled to play with her. In addition to the musicians mentioned, Todd Rudgren, Elton John, Carol King also appreciated her genius in music making and that her cousin was Alan Merrill. She showed other female musicians that there was a place, in a man's world, for them and she set the mark for women to have total control over the music they created. There was no one like her, until Amy Winehouse hit the stage.

Her Album of standards "Its Gonna Take a Miracle" backed up by Labelle is one of most treasured albums..

Wow. These shorts are a great tribute to the unknown artists. Such a sad ending the same age as her moms passing.

Well for starters she was phenomenal. Yes I had heard her name but before I read your post I had never heard her songs. Well, so I thought. I have been listening to her tracks now for the past 30 mins and she was an unreal talent and I encourage anyone with a music service to look her up immediately. Amazing amazing amazing. Her “Stone Soul Picnic” is a tour de force and just seeing now the great Joe Osborn, Larry Knechtel and Hal Blaine (the session musicians from The Wrecking Crew) played on that original recording for The Fifth Dimension. Listen to it and you can hear the passion in her voice.
