It may cost a bit but getting a braille writer or as my teacher calls it a braille typewriter makes life much easier

This is a great physical representation of what disabled people mean when we say "everything you can do, i can do with twice as much effort"

Holy cow ot seems like it would be incredibly difficult to use that slate. To have to do everything in mirror image seems very difficult to learn

Idk why I’ve never thought about a braille eraser before, but good to know they are making it so VI people have everything a sighted person can!

This is very cool! I kind of memorise grade 1 braille and I’m very interested in it.

I remember this tool being discussed in Little House On The Prairie but I never really understood what it would have looked like until now, thanks for sharing!

One thing you need to remember though when using a slate and stylist is that in order for your braille to come out correctly you need to write each word or letter backwards. So if you were going to write the word knowledge you would write dots four and six instead of one and three. Also a braille eraser does work well, but it doesn't completely erase everything. The original dot or dots are still there. They are just pressed down and if you do not erase correctly, you will still be able to feel the mistake. I know when I was taking this course in college on how to read Braille with your eyes and write it our teacher told us that we were not allowed to erase anything. If we made a mistake, we had to discard the entire piece of paper and write it all over again.

This seems so incredibly cumbersome, i can't imagine is a particularly efficient way of taking notes.

Funnily enough, as a sighted fellow I became one way illiterate. I can use a slate just fine but i just never got the hang of reading. So i only remember the mirrored braille!

My fav braille tool was a typewriter. The keys had braille and when you hit a key, itd punch in braille similar to how this punches it in (not blind, selective mute, the class kinda assumed all mute kids would also have blind kid issues, which isnt correct but still had some neat info)

What are the best tools for taking notes during a high school class?
Would these work on a notebook, for example?

I have a full A4 sized one, really useful.

And I didnt know there were erasers!!! that would be really helpful, specially back when I started. Making a mistake and having to start over is not fun! haha

Ahh I saw that a few times way to tedious I’ll stick to a Brailler XD (btw I am half blind with no sight in one eye and I’m near sighted in the other. I went to a school for the blind/visually impaired for grades 5-9)

Seems like it would be pretty slow... You showed a Braille typewriter before right?
