Putting a rubber belt in oil is totally fucking stupid !

Since there is no key way on the cam and phaser, how do you align the cam and phaser correctly? Because the phaser gears are not round and have high and low spots they need to be installed a specific way or the belt just gets tight and loose and wreck the tensioner or worse

I have a Fiesta with the 1.0 EcoBoost engine and have covered 66, 000 miles on my last service I checked the oil strainer which is a gauze pre filter for the oil pump and all was fine. This is because I change my oil every 10 to 12.5k. If you use this type of engine for short trips ie it never gets upto operating temp unburnt fuel stays in the oil and eventually attacks the belt thus breaking it down which is why the oil filter gets blocked up. These engines are not bad engines they just have to be used in the right way and filled with the correct oil. Its also worth stating that you should never use any sort of engine flush as they can attack the wet belt.

The belt snapped. I got a new one to replace it. So far I took off the oil pan and oil pump. How do I install the replacement belt? Do I have to take the crank and pulley off? I’m completely lost from here forward I would really appreciate the help, thank you 🙏

I bought a ecosport with the 2.0 4cyl and the wife liked it so much she wanted one. For her we just went with the base model and 1.0 ecoboost. After break in we lined them up to see the power difference. On a flat road the 2.0 naturally aspirated immediately pulls away but the 1.0 spins up and doesn't lose much ground. If we started on a uphill and gunned them side by side the 1.0 stayed right with the 2.0. Now of course mine is a little heavier being its awd and hers is just fwd but the 1.0 is impressive for what it is. However, the 2.0 is overall much nicer to drive. It runs much smoother. The 1.0 has a drone noise it makes when driving around 35-40. You can feel additional vibration overall. AND we both get identical mpg. We have made a couple 100 mile highway trips at identical speed as well as our normal day to day driving. Both are about 29 mpg. So while its been fun testing the 1.0 I wouldn't buy it again. I suspect the only advantage is going to be if you daily drive in the city the 1.0 probably will gain a little mpg but worrying about turbo's, oil pumps, and the drone is not worth it.

The 1.0L is a gem of a engine. It's great for what it is. There is no problem here other than a careless owner who neglected to change the oil in it.
The 1.0L is engineered with a timing belt bathed in oil. That combination redimuces noise and mechanical friction. Life expectancy of the belt is life of the engine. It's not scheduled for maintenance or replacement for 10 yrs or 150, 00mi.

What's with the Castrol d*** riding? These cars come out of the factory with motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend with service intervals at 5k miles. I contacted 3 different people over at Castrol oil and they have no clue what I'm talking about when I ask if there oil has "wet" timing belt conditioner/an additive package that's helps the lifespan of the timing belt.

The belt you were referring to that drives the oil pump is called a “poly-chain”. Running it through the oil helps to keep it cool and another reason to change your oil frequently to avoid dirt and sludge from building up

Are you insane ? That engine would whoop most the 2.0L junkers driving around the US, although Americans can't make anything over 200bhp without it being a 5.0L V8

For how long he didn't changed the oil? How many km have the car?

I have a 2017 Ford Focus 1.0L. The oil was changed with the correct oil every 5000 - 7000 miles with SAE 5W-20 - Synthetic Blend Motor Oil
XO-5W20-Q1SP. At about 95, 000 miles my oil pump belt shredded too but it was because the belt tensioner casting broke and lodged in the oil pump gears and stopped the pump, thus the oil belt continued to run off of the crank pulley and strip all of the teeth. The timing belt snapped too. The rubber, composite oil belt teeth went throughout the engine seizing the brake booster pump, the turbo had no oil and it burned up too. I found pieces of rubber all over the place - This had nothing to do with oil changes - in fact anything can get in those oil pump gear teeth and seize that pump up. The plastic cover around the gears was busted as well. So new timing belt, timing belt tensioner, new brake booster pump, turbo charger, oil pump, oil pump belt, oil pump tensioner, plastic cover. Also had to go through all oil lines, oil lube holes had to be cleaned out - I found rubber slurry everywhere in that engine. I wouldn't be surprised if that vehicle that you fixed in this video, comes back with the oil light flashing because the oil pump pick up screen is blocked with rubber later. I talked to Ford about it thinking there may have been a problem with in the tensioner casting but they said they did not know of any issues (Hmmm). My point is this, it is much more complicated than just changing oil (which is a must with this car goes without saying but) - anything that gets in those 2 front oil pump gears will stop it and the chain reaction begins. It's too bad there's not a way to regularly inspect that belt for wear. One tooth of that belt can stop the pump. The other practical problem is the timing belt gear pulley is in front of the oil pump belt so you wave to pull that as well. Sorry for the novel but be forewarned to check everything and clean it out good. Drop the pan if you're not sure before it becomes a nightmare.

Hello. Please tell me when to replace the engine belt

Ford decided to use the belt rather than the chain because the belt was .02 cheaper.

2020 Escape with 6000 mi. And really impressed with performance of the 3 cyl. Averaging 37 mi/gal.

We have a 1.5L 3 Cylinder Turbo ford escape 2020. Great MPG we did a 40 mile trip and it used a gallon of has some kind of cylinder deactivation technology and auto stop start at red lights to save even more we keep looking down to see when the gas will get low but it never seems to empty... crazy fuel efficient engine with the 2020s also i heard they updated the block to fix some cooling leak issues on the older models so with that fixed i think these new 1.5 3cylinders are going to be super reliable if the owner changes oil on time with the right oil... time will tell but i got a good feeling on these ones now that they fixed the only real issue it had

I've got one of these in my new secondhand car - a C-Max - in the UK . If you don't get around to anything else, get around to changing the oil together with the filter - it's imperative and elementary, my dear Watson .
Try explaining this to your teenage Daughter - it'll take a while before they grasp the concept.

CAN A 2018 REG FOCUS ECOBOOST 1.00 125 HAVE A CHAIN TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL WET BELTS?

I told my Daughter, if you look after your Car then your Car will look afer YOU.
It always worked for me and has for my Daughter too. Bought the new Ford 2021 Puma. I don't expect any issues.
