What happened to the brilliant game of rugby league in the U.K. and the world class players we had at this time? There was only a cigarette paper between the teams in this era, it was amazing to see. The game has gone seriously downhill in recent years and it is very sad to see that happen to such a brilliant game. Ellery Hanley was the greatest player to play the game.

Agreed, the greatest Test, the tensest match I have ever watched. I don't remember Australia being so dominant in the second half, Paul Loughlin really dragged GB back into the match with that intercept. Lee Jackson said later that near the end of the match he was absolutely stuffed and just couldn't react to that dummy from Ricky Stuart.

I remember Dad, myself, and my brothers were all in raptures, literally waking Mum and my sisters up in the wee hours of the morning, Aussie time, watching big Mal barge his way over like this. It was absolute bedlam. I can remember it like it was only yesterday.
