One of the lesser-known masterpieces of the master.

Fantastic & superb conducting of Maestro Harding.

This composition is one the few last gems crafted by Mozart for the humanity.

Cet accord final, comme un Soleil qui se lève, donne du sens à la vie qui s'éteignait après cette lente marche de la mort ...Le Maître nous fait espérer...!

The greatest expression of grief in all art--until those amazing moments about two and a half minutes in when Beauty bursts through, transcending grief and all other cares of this material world..

You know what it's about when you play something like that. The players must have been so serious and channeled the grieving. May the Lord grant eternal rest to all those who are now asleep. Amen.

Yhis music is quite surprising and unique in all respects in Mozart's works. Those of us who are sensitive to tones will note how the global sonority is darkened by the use of alto clarinets (corno di basseto) in the medium range. These instruments will be used again in the 'Requiem".

Pasolini used this piece in the Crucifixion scene of his film Il Vangelo secondo Matteo (The Gospel according to Matthew).

If possible, I would love to have that played at my funeral, as part of the Masonic Funeral Rite.

I am not a musician but the cord sounded at 2:30 'is what I call the God Cord. In my opinion it has always moved me to tears; can someone who knows tell me what it is please? Mozart was a Freemason and he may have written it contemplating the full light of revalation bursting forth to shine upon a friend. This is the music of and for the 3rd Degree. At 2:30 I feel that God speaks through Bro. Mozart.

Sehr gute Oboenklänge !!! Scheinen die ersten Geigen sich viel zu viel zu bewegen ? oder simulieren sie eine barocke Ausführung , die es nicht ist ? Cool, dass das Kontrafagott auch mitspielt !!!

Splendid! Harding's conducting is so grandly magnificent! I can think of no other way of expressing it. . . The young man is such an opulent talent. In general I'm not fond of British conductors -- they are (as a rule) so bland ... with the exception of Rattle of whom I'm not at all fond due to his comical facial expressions. But Harding? His intellect and talent so SHINE! Bravo Maestro! And yes, as R.K. Roma says: "Thank you, for sharing" Classical Vault1!

Ich kenne dieses Werk aus dem Film „Das erste Evangelium Matthäus“ von Pier Paolo Pasolini.

I can't be the only one who knows about this from the story about the amazed autistic boy some years back, can I?

Both Mozart and his father Leopold joined the Masons at a time when the Catholic Church anathemized them. Wondering what the explanation is, surprised he openly honored that proscribed group. Mozart and his family were devout Catholics, it seems. He visited Rome and was impressed by Allegri's Miserere.
