Slurred speech and difficulty walking, worse over 6 months

Olivopontocerebellar atrophy (OPCA) - spectrum of progressive neurodegenerative diseases of cerebellum and brainstem characterized by progressive balance loss(disequilibrium), progressive impairment of voluntary movements (cerebellar ataxia), and slurred speech (dysarthria).

Sporadic (more common) - Main type is Multisystem Atrophy (MSA) that has transverse demyelinating strip across the pons producing the crossed buns sign. Also Shy-Drager and striatonigral degeneration.

Hereditary - Hereditary spinocerebellar ataxia, autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxia, and Machado-Joseph Disease. Can be autosomal recessive or x linked as well.

In many ways the symptoms this man had are similar to Huntington's Diease-also has atrophy of various brain structures, involuntary movements, slurred speech, difficulty walking and is genetic. With the slurred speech and difficulty walking sometimes police officers or others will think the affected person is drunk.

I wish my neurologist would go into more detail about the disses. Instead I feel like I'm wasting his time just being there.

My mother is suffering from this disease from last 4 years and within 8 months she completely changed… she can’t walk, can’t speak properly, can’t swallow or eat properly, all her functions has slowed down. But her brain is completely active. We have taken so many treatments like IVIG, Rituximab, steroids and her ovaries cancer was detected 2 years back and is in stage 1 we have operated her and removed it. But still she is the same and now going down complete…. There is no solution for this? Or any other treatment to make her stable??
