Animating in ways After Effects CAN'T with Rive

Joey Judkins Rive tutorials: @JJMotionStudio

One of the things that gets me most excited about Rive is the ability to blend timelines together into a single animation. You're able to work on different aspects of the same assets one at a time and then combine them all to create a much more complex animation. And the best part is, it's extremely simple to do.

Chapters
00:00 Intro
00:56 Illustrator to Rive
02:13 Manipulating Paths
04:46 Animating the Scale
06:27 Keyframing the Path Vertices
10:25 Restricting the Framerate
11:17 Animating the Transform Box
13:46 Combining Timelines with the State Machine
16:33 Offsetting the Timing
20:02 Thanks for watching!

Pretty sure you sold me when you mentioned that each vertex and bezier handle was keyframeable. GAME CHANGER.

I recently made a toaster mini game 100% in Rive! It's so fun to just build all those state machines and see your creation come to life. I'm really happy you're sharing these Rive videos.

the animation flow by itself is mad genius, when you think you can build interactivity around it.... damn I be speechless everytime

When I drag the asset in Illustrator into Rive, it is always in the "Processing" stage. I googled around and saw in one of the Rive's forums that there seems to be issues with bringing in SVG files and there was a suggestion to bring the asset in as a PNG instead. That worked for me, just in case someone else is facing problems

Edit: I tried importing a basic Ellipse and made sure to "set Styling to "Presentation Attributes" in the SVG Options." Instead of copy and pasting, I actually exported the asset as an SVG then import from Rive itself. It worked with the ellipse, then I tried with my original asset and it is now working too

I will be interested to see how to integrate a project into a website for a free and paid version, if there is a difference.

I wonder what these interactive animations can be used for?
Can you make a game? Use this on YouTube? Or just put it on a website only?

Hey Jake, thanks for the vid! I make videos on productivity/self development etc. And have used after effects for creating the animations alongside me speaking into the camera. Think something similar to Ali abdaal. Was wondering would I be able to use rive in such case ? Can I import my video into it? The fact that it runs on the web means I don’t need to carry my machine around. And means no more laggy timelines !
