I've been having fun talking with it. It seems more creative than ChatGPT (GPT-4 version) but probably not anywhere as useful right now. Thank you to all the people who worked on or are working on this. It's a joy to banter with. I'm level 11 hopefully they add meaningless trinkets and badges to motivate people to contribute in specific ways.

I helped this project by adding about 100 replies specifically rated to improving English writing skills. While 100 replies is not much, it's something. The amazing thing about open-source is that 10, 000 people making 5 contributions are FAR more valuable than 1 person making 5, 000 contributions. If you only thing you do is pop in and rank a few dozen replies with your earnest effort, especially in a non-English language, you can help leapfrog the technology by joining hands with thousands of other like-minded people.

Always help contribute to awesome open source programs! It's how we can OBLITERATE these soulless corporations!

As much as I want to see open source win, I will only get involved in projects that bake in a commitment to remain as such in their terms and conditions or compensate the community efficiently. As we have seen with ChatGPT, open-source AI projects seem to be getting around taking everyone's data by claiming open-source status before changing status mid-project once they've built a large enough model for free (getting around GDPR) before selling to corporations and giving no compensation back to the communities which built them.There's got to be a pledge now, as there is clearly a difference with what is actually open source to what is just social harvesting

Great video! Ive just started using openassistant and realised that instead of spending time using it for my value, that it needs my help with training. So am very excited to spend time every day completing tasks knowing I'm helping grow the open source community version. It's not up to GPT4 level, but fuck if it's not impressive for a bunch of guys in basements!! 😂

Good review Matt. I tried it for organizing a song of a certain genre and it did descent. Then I tried to have it study up on a crypto project by giving it a few commands. It did ok with that. I did have it just quit mid-sentence on me couple times. Like you always say, this is the worst it will ever be. So, we shall see.

Open Assistant doesn’t appear to be censored so will be popular just for that reason. I knew that the censored replies in ChatGPT would leave the door open for uncensored alternatives and here they come.
