I had my left knee replaced 24 days ago. In Nord Orthopaedics Lithuania. Spent 3 days 2 nights in the Clinic then transferred to the SPA UPA Vilnius Lithuania for 10 days. Where there was morphine on demand I am glad to say. I wish I had stayed there for 2 more weeks. Daily Physiotherapy plus Cryotherapy and coherent light therapy. Leg as expected swelled up. Now the swelling is just around the knee implant. Day 12 the staples were removed Day 14 I was in the swimming pool. Only drawback was the ground pork presented in multiple forma never want to see a pork meat ball again. Plus there was the chicken with the same back taste.

Had tkr on my left knee 8 months ago was pain free in 6 weeks. Had tkr on my right knee four months ago still having a little pain in it, it varies knee to knee, but overall very happy should have done it years ago, well worth the pain no comparison to the pain I had before surgery.

The hardest part in one I will agree with is you have to do those leg exercises were you force your thigh down as much as possible for at least five minutes at a time and doing leg lifts. I’m five weeks out now and don’t have a lot of pain, but take Motrin, 400 or 600 mg two or three times a day. That’s it. I got off the oxycodone after a week and a half.

After surgery the surgeon promoted bending the knee. Once I reached the UPA SPA in Vilnius Lithuania all bending of the knee was banned until the staples had been removed.

Although I agree it is important to take the pain medication as directed, it is critical to stop their use after 2 to 3 weeks. Doctors preach you must take them and “stay ahead of the pain”. Yes but not for too long! I recently had a knee replacement and was prescribed Hydromorphone. I took it for five weeks. The withdrawal process is worse than the actual knee surgery. If I could do it over, I would insist on the least potent pain killer and I would get off of them after two weeks. Ask if you can take anything else, like anti-inflammatories.

walking is great for your recuperation, I just had my left knee replaced and the therapist told me it helps to build and strengthen the leg muscles, also to help the knee to get use to walking again. You obviously will need a walker for it.
